The mobile implementation is simplified compared with desktop X-Plane, and downloaded conditions may lag the weather outside.
How do I enable real-world weather in X-Plane Mobile?
Enable it through the flight’s weather controls, then allow the app to retrieve the conditions before flying. The precise position and wording of the control can change between app releases.
- Connect to the internet. Confirm that X-Plane Mobile is permitted to use Wi-Fi or mobile data.
- Select the departure airport or flying area. The app downloads weather for the flight location, not necessarily the device’s physical location.
- Open the weather controls. Look for an option labelled along the lines of Real Weather or Live Weather.
- Wait for the conditions to load. Apply the change or start the flight only after the weather information has populated.
- Avoid overriding it manually. Moving wind, cloud, visibility or precipitation controls afterwards can replace all or part of the downloaded setup.
A mistake we see often is enabling real weather and then adjusting a weather slider to make one condition stronger. That may convert the flight back to manually defined weather rather than preserving the live data.
What does X-Plane Mobile real-world weather reproduce?
X-Plane Mobile translates available weather reports into conditions its mobile weather engine can display. Depending on the data and app release, that can include wind, cloud cover, visibility and precipitation, but it is not an exact visual copy of the sky at that moment.
Weather reports can be several minutes old, and the closest reporting station may be some distance from the aircraft. Small showers, rapidly developing fog, terrain-driven cloud and street-by-street variations may therefore be missing. The feature should also be treated as latest-available weather rather than a historical archive. Changing the simulator’s date or clock affects lighting and time of day; it does not reliably retrieve the weather that occurred at that historical time.
Does X-Plane Mobile live weather work offline?
No. An internet connection is required whenever X-Plane Mobile fetches or refreshes real-world weather. If the connection drops, an already loaded flight may retain its existing conditions, but those conditions are then static rather than live.

Why is X-Plane Mobile weather wrong or not updating?
Stale weather usually results from a connection problem, a manual override or a mismatch between the selected location and the report being compared.
- Confirm the weather mode. Make sure a preset or custom setup has not replaced real-world weather.
- Test the connection. A device can show Wi-Fi while sitting behind a captive login page, and mobile-data permissions may be disabled for the app.
- Check the flight location. Reselect the airport or region after moving the aircraft to another part of the world.
- Request fresh conditions. Use any refresh control provided by the installed release. If none appears, reselect real weather or reload the flight.
- Compare the correct report. Use the selected airport and the report’s observation time, not only a phone weather forecast for a nearby town.
- Update the app if the option is missing. Install the latest compatible build through the device’s normal update system and sign back into the account used by X-Plane Mobile.
Use real-world weather when the aim is to reproduce the latest available conditions along a route. Choose custom weather for repeatable crosswind practice, a specific low-visibility approach, stronger precipitation than the downloaded report provides, or any flight that must work offline.
