Approach and runway coverage

Hilo’s six approach charts serve only two of its four runway ends, concentrating instrument coverage on a single runway alignment. Within that footprint, the mix includes ILS and localiser procedures alongside RNAV (GPS) and VOR options. The 9,803 ft runway provides 4,202 ft more length than the intersecting 5,601 ft runway, making available runway length the clearest practical distinction between the two alignments.

Wider chart context

Ellison Onizuka Kona International at Keahole is the only listed nearby field with broader chart coverage than Hilo. Waimea-Kohala has a notably thinner set, while Bradshaw Army Airfield’s coverage is thinner still. The Hawaiian Islands Sectional supplies the wider VFR context beyond the airport diagram and terminal procedures.
