USAir Boeing 727-200 N8856E
A repaint of Vistaliners B727-200 in the colors of USAir. Model by Erick Cant…
USAir’s early-1980s Boeing 727-100 livery brings the classic white-fuselage scheme to life with crisp logos, accurate markings, and tailored shading for day and dusk scenes. Version 2.0 adds dedicated night textures for believable ramp and in-flight lighting in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 and requires the AI Aardvark B727-100 base model.
This updated rendition of the early 1980s USAir Boeing 727-100 repaint delivers an authentic white-fuselage finish that captures the vibrant corporate styling of that era. Version 2.0 provides both day and night texture sets for enhanced realism. Developed exclusively for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004, this package showcases a visually appealing representation of the classic tri-engine design. Created by Sheppard Avery, it is intended for the AI Aardvark B727-100 base model and offers a historical glimpse into USAir’s transitional phase from local service airline to major national carrier.
The Boeing 727-100 was renowned for its sleek T-tail and triple-engine configuration (located at the rear of the fuselage), which helped many airlines expand their medium-range routes. In this repaint, the bright white fuselage reflects the airline’s vivid branding at the time. The coloration is carefully calibrated for the lighting environment of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 to ensure accurate shading during both midday flights and sunset approaches. The updated livery retains crisp lines, subtle reflections, and historically correct placements of logos and markings. Meanwhile, the night textures introduce subtle fuselage illumination for nighttime ops and ramp scenes. This approach allows simmers to immerse themselves in an era when USAir was aggressively growing its coast-to-coast presence.

Originally founded as All American Aviation in 1939, this carrier began by serving overlooked communities in Pennsylvania and the Ohio Valley. Renamed Allegheny Airlines in the 1950s, it expanded through strategic mergers with Lake Central and Mohawk. Throughout the late 1970s, aggressive expansion efforts necessitated another rebranding, prompting the shift to “USAir.” This name signaled its growing footprint across the continental United States following deregulation. Shortly thereafter, additional acquisitions brought PSA and Piedmont into the fold, developing significant operations in Philadelphia and Charlotte. Today recognized as US Airways, the carrier has continued to broaden its reach beyond domestic flights, establishing notable international routes in Europe and the Caribbean.
This repaint exclusively includes texture files and does not contain the AI Aardvark B727-100 base model. The base model is available for download separately via the Fly Away Simulation file library and must be installed beforehand. Once the base model is in place, transfer each texture component into the respective folder. Finally, update the aircraft.cfg to reference these new textures. For optimal reflective surfaces, select the reflective variant of the AI Aardvark model in your simulator. Ensure your entries are properly formatted within the aircraft.cfg to avoid display issues.
This repaint offers enthusiasts of historical liveries an opportunity to fly or observe AI traffic of a pivotal generation of USAir’s fleet. The Boeing 727-100 itself remains a symbol of mid-century innovation, and this texture set celebrates that heritage in a visually precise manner. As always, credit goes to Sheppard Avery for the meticulous repaint work. To fully appreciate these textures, confirm that all relevant flight simulation graphic settings are properly configured, including dynamic lighting and reflection levels, to see the livery at its best.
