FSX BAe ATP Smoke Effect

BAe ATP engine smoke effects add a convincing haze from both nacelles, enhancing climbouts, turns, and high-G scenes while retaining wingtip vortices. Designed for Microsoft Flight Simulator X, it requires the Ennigma Simulations freeware FS2004 BAe ATP base package and uses a custom smoke effect tied to the in-sim smoke toggle.

Engine smoke effect for the Ennigma Simulations freeware FS2004 BAe ATP (ENIGMA_ATP_BASEBACK.ZIP). By Tom Tiedman.

Installation:

  • Copy and paste the enclosed "fx_smoke_f6.fx" file into your FSX "Effects" folder. (It's probably there already, so look first).
  • Open your BAe ATP "aircraft.cfg" file and delete the Ennigma FS2004 "[SMOKESYSTEM] wingtip vortices" info. It will not work in FSX. The default FSX wingtip vortices work on the BAe ATP instead when used in FSX.
  • Copy and paste all of the [SMOKESYSTEM] info. below into the "aircraft.cfg" file, replacing the smokesystem you just deleted. I pasted mine between the [folding_wings] section and the [Tailhook] section with good results.
  • Press your "I" key while flying your BAe ATP in FSX and enjoy the engine smoke (and wingtip vortices in high-G maneuvers, as the enclosed pics show).

How to install this mod

FSX / P3D add-on
  1. Extract the downloaded archive

Use 7-Zip (free) or WinRAR to extract the ZIP to a temporary folder. Don't install while still zipped — the simulator can't read inside ZIP files.
  2. Place files per the readme

Most FSX add-ons go into one of: SimObjects\Airplanes\, Addon Scenery\, Effects\, or Gauges\.
  3. Always read the included readme

Every mod ships with a readme.txt or README file. It tells you exactly where files go, what dependencies are needed, and any quirks specific to this add-on.
