The FJ-1 Fury, introduced in 1947, marked one of North American Aviation’s initial ventures into modern carrier-borne jets. Although only 31 units ever took to the deck due to performance constraints, it laid groundwork for later, more successful aircraft. Its compact airframe, derived from pioneering design principles, combined a low-mounted wing with a single jet powerplant. This approach reflected the post-war push for improved speed and handling, while still maintaining the ability to operate from naval carriers.

Visual Finishes and Model Aspects

This freeware package includes a default paint scheme plus an expertly executed repaint by Winfried Wollschlaeger. Each livery highlights distinctive markings and subtle surface details that faithfully capture the aircraft’s era. The underlying model, originally crafted by Kazunori Ito, emphasizes realistic proportions, including a finely shaped tail fin and detailed jet intake. Converted for Microsoft Flight Simulator X by Michael Pook, the design benefits from performance-optimized geometry that suits many flying styles.

Installation Procedure and Components

• Place the FJ-1 Fury folder into your primary SimObjects/Airplanes directory within FSX.
• Move included gauge files into your main Gauges folder, and copy Effects data into the core Effects directory. If prompted, it is advised not to overwrite existing items unless required.
• Once these steps are complete, the add-on can be accessed in your aircraft selection list.
