Editorial
Project OpenSky have long been one of my favorite groups out there these days, as they always provide such a consistent level of realism. When I heard that they had taken on a version of the Air France Boeing 747-428, I decided to grab this more or less as soon as I could!
Not only does it come across as exciting and a bit different to the norm, but it offers and easy and effective way for you to enjoy a complete remake of this fun and engaging aircraft. Outside of the addition of a new virtual cockpit, 32-bit and DXT3 textures, you’re getting access to a machine that well and truly kicks ass.
However, please be aware that this was made for FS2004 originally so despite its qualities it does have some conflicts with FSX. Not every feature will work 100% as intended although it has been optimized as much as it possibly can be to minimize conflict.
The Improvements
The first thing that I noticed upon installing this was the improvement in the model over the original 747-428. This does a wonderful job of making sure that it has all of the features that you would expect to see in such an attentive mod. It even has some easily coded XML animations that look great as well without reducing performance.
One thing that really caught my attention, though, was the introduction of the dynamic flexing wings. These look great and work hand-in-hand with plenty of new features. From the nose gear and body gear steering right through to the low speed aileron locks and rudder locks at certain intervals, you can find that this makes it exceptionally easy to control when you’re flying around.
It’s this ease of management that ensures you can notice big improvements in the level of performance that it hands out. It also has fully animated control surfaces and suspension, meaning that it becomes VERY easy for you to manage and understand where you are coming from in terms of your flight style. If you’ve ever struggled to understand what makes Boeing so fun, this mod should help you see why they are such a beloved aircraft style.
Perfect Design
More importantly, though, this sells the image of the aircraft perfectly. From fully working animations and independent features that all work alongside one another to make the aircraft feel truly alive, this makes a telling difference. One thing that really impressed me was the animated tilting bogies and the animated thrust reversers.
Alongside the excellent textures and the overall level of design and precision being put forward, this made the whole thing feel as comfortable and as effective as it possibly can. It even comes with crash effects, and they look great! Trust me, I had more than one opportunity to find that out…
The whole thing, though, is just such a fun and easy way for you to enjoy a fresh style of flying. From ground service vehicles being available when cargo doors are open to the easy operation using keyword shortcuts, this is a piece of cake to handle.
I’d happily recommend it to anyone who wants something challenging yet interesting.
Installation Instructions
Most of the freeware add-on aircraft and scenery packages in our file library come with easy installation instructions which you can read above in the file description. If in doubt, you may also ask a question or view existing answers in our dedicated Q&A forum.

Same Ryan. I want virtual cockpit images.
It's a nice model but there are a couple problems, the first one is that the nose gear collapses randomly while on the ground. For that matter, the entire landing gear is glitched, where it just bounces and twitches randomly for no reason. Another problem has to do with the fuel tanks, some of them are missing. You'll see that when you go to the fuel and payloads configs of the stock 747-400 that comes with the game, it will have tip tanks, and a bunch of other tanks that this model doesn't. Handling is a also a bit different, as to where more elevator input is needed to keep the nose up compared to the stock 747 that comes with the game. I might be overlooking something but I don't know.
why does is say fsx when it is for fs2004? they are different games
Just a little tip, I don't download anything unless there is a screenshot of the cockpit, i'm sure alot of people are the same way.
