Berlin Landmarks. Fixes the location and size of some of the default buildings in the center of Berlin, Germany. By Edgar Knobloch.
MS put a lot of effort into recreate some of the Berlin landmarks. Beside the landmarks of FS2002/FS2004 now landmarks were added like "Potsdamer Platz" square, Charite hospital, Allianz tower and the "Funkturm". Even the Reichstag was replaced by a new 3D model and new textures.
The FSX extension pack "Acceleration" enhanced Berlin and the City-Quarter of Berlin-Tempelhof by a big number of new or highly improved 3D-objects.Reichstag, TV-Tower, "Rotes Rathaus" town hall, a number of Churches and many other objects were recreated with new 3D-models and crystall-clear textures. All the new objects of the extension pack are in my opinion at their exact location and have the correct direction. A great addition to the city of Berlin in FSX! Only the good model of the Allianz building in FSX was replaced by a worse limited version.
Unfortunately not all errors of the older scenery objects from FS2004 and the default FSX were corrected. Some of the used models have the old problems. Some buildings are doubled - an old version at a wrong location and a new improved version at the correct location (see international trade center and the former "Hotel Stadt Berlin").
Fortunately it is quite easy to correct this with the BGLCOMP SDK. A little bit more difficult was it to exclude some autogen areas, because this feature is handled different from FS2004 and the first version of the SDK documentation was wrong. But with the help of Luis Féliz Tirados tutorial on Avsim and Luis Sa's SBuilder program this problem was
In addition the scenery was enhanced with some generic objects: gasoline tanks at the Westhafen and at the Teltowkanal. The former radio-listening post building on the Teufelsberg is displayed as FSX default observatory. The last is a crane object in ther "Osthafen" area. The remove these generic objects, just delete or rename the file Berlin-generic.BGL.
Installation for default FSX:
Simply put all BGL files from the folder "Berlin-fsx-fix\scenery" into the "Addon Scenery\scenery" folder of FSX or add an appropriate Scenery folder with the Scenery Manager.
All the older files of BerlinFSXFix v1.0 will be replaced completely No additional files are necessary.
Installation for FSX with the Acceleration extension pack:
Simply put all BGL files from the folder "Berlin-fsx-acell-fix\scenery" into the "Addon Scenery\scenery" folder of FSX or add an appropriate Scenery folder with the Scenery Manager.
Pay attention to delete any files from the older BerlinFSXfix 1.0. No additional files are necessary.
Remark: If you want fast forward in time and want to remove the "Palace of Republic" building, just delete the file "Berlin-Palast.BGL".
