This comprehensive freeware package enriches Microsoft Flight Simulator X by adding numerous small airstrips across the northern and northeastern regions of South Africa, including the famed Lowveld and areas near Kruger National Park. These fields cater to a variety of users, such as microlight aviators, game lodge operators, and local farmers. Recommended for use with FSXWORX17.ZIP and FSXWORX20.ZIP (both obtained separately), this add-on is brought to you by the talented creators: Martin du Preez, Hannes Steyn, and Aeroworx.

Expanded Airfields in Key Territories

Region-Specific Enhancements

These smaller-scale aerodromes fill gaps for enthusiasts who seek shorter hops over South Africa’s scenic Lowveld, famed for its wildlife biodiversity and subtropical climate. In addition, several strips situated near Kruger National Park heighten immersion for those who enjoy wildlife patrols or lodge transfer flights. The scenery precisely integrates terrain elevations for a more authentic depiction of these environments.

Critical Setup Suggestions

  • Ensure that each Aeroworx component is installed in its appropriate numerical sequence before using this package.
  • Optimal performance is achieved when combined with the Aeroworx mesh sets (FSXMesh0604 Part 1–4, FSXMesh0605 Part 1–3, FSXMesh0704 Part 1–3, and FSXMesh0705). These meshes refine dam and vector data elevations around the region.
  • Previous Aeroworx Mesh Version 1 was withdrawn. The updated Version 2 series, compiled with modern compilers, includes FSXMesh0604_Part1.zip through FSXMesh0604_Part4.zip, FSXMesh0605_Part1.zip through FSXMesh0605_Part3.zip, FSXMesh0705.zip, and FSXMesh0704_Part1.zip through FSXMesh0704_Part3.zip.

Installation Steps

  1. First, extract “fsxWorx21.zip” to a temporary directory. It is recommended to keep a dedicated folder for Aeroworx FSX scenic downloads for easier organization.
  2. Execute the included “fsxWorx21.exe” file to launch the auto-installer. It typically reads your Microsoft Flight Simulator X path from the registry, so follow the prompts as directed.
  3. A folder named “SASceneryFSX” will appear inside your simulator’s main Scenery directory. The installer places new and future updates into this location.
  4. If you prefer, run the installer to a temporary directory and manually move the files into your simulator’s Scenery folder. Avoid placing project files in custom directories, as future packages will expect them in the default installed path.
  5. On initial setup of Aeroworx additions, open the “Scenery Library” inside Microsoft Flight Simulator X, click “Add Area,” and direct the library to “SASceneryFSX.” Confirm the selection, exit the simulator, then relaunch it to activate the scenery.

Known Limitations

  • Maintain a 1m terrain resolution setting for ideal placement of objects and water features.
  • Certain road segments possibly intersect bodies of water due to the absence of bridge structures at water crossings.
  • Some default airports may improperly align; thus, roads or river features might cross runways or taxiways in rare instances.
  • With a 76m mesh, water levels might not always match dam walls perfectly, making some dam areas appear slightly lowered or raised.
