Which Airbus A380s are available in MSFS 2020 and 2024?

Ian Stephens
In short

Compare Airbus A380 options for MSFS 2020 and 2024, including FlyByWire A380X, paid add-ons, console limits and compatibility traps.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024 do not include a flyable Airbus A380 as a default aircraft in any edition. On PC, the main high-fidelity option is the free FlyByWire A380X. Paid Marketplace A380s may also appear, but quality, platform access and MSFS 2024 compatibility must be checked before purchase.

Airbus A380 options compared

The practical choices are one detailed freeware aircraft, a simpler paid model and several legacy or non-flyable packages that are often mistaken for native MSFS aircraft.

The Marketplace catalogue can differ between simulator versions and platforms. A product visible on PC is not automatically available on Xbox or PlayStation, and an MSFS 2020 purchase is not proof of native MSFS 2024 support.

Which A380 should I choose?

Choose the FlyByWire A380X if you use a PC and want the strongest systems simulation available without paying for the aircraft. It has custom flight-deck systems and long-haul functionality, but it remains an evolving freeware project, so secondary systems and individual features can change between builds.

  • For systems depth: use the FlyByWire A380X.
  • For a console: use only an A380 specifically offered for your platform in the in-simulator Marketplace.
  • For straightforward operation: a simpler paid A380 may be suitable, but compare its stated systems and MSFS-version support before buying.

Our separate explanation covers the A380X's freeware status and platform restrictions. Once selected, follow the version-specific A380X installation procedure rather than dropping an arbitrary download into the Community folder.

Does the FlyByWire A380X work in MSFS 2024?

Yes, the FlyByWire A380X can run in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, but it must be a package explicitly intended for MSFS 2024 rather than an old MSFS 2020 installation copied across manually. Select the correct simulator target in the installer and keep the two Community folders separate.

MSFS 2024 can accept some older packages, but complex aircraft depend on custom code, displays and simulator interfaces that may require an update. Our MSFS 2020-to-2024 add-on compatibility guide explains why visual add-ons often transfer more easily than study-level aircraft.

Console limits for Xbox and PlayStation

Xbox and PlayStation users cannot install the FlyByWire A380X because it requires an external installer and access to the simulator's package folders. Xbox users must choose an A380 distributed for their console through the Marketplace. On PS5 or PS5 Pro, the same restriction applies to MSFS 2024; MSFS 2020 was never released for PlayStation.

Why does the A380 not appear in the aircraft list?

An installed A380 usually fails to appear because the wrong package, folder or simulator version has been used.

  • It is only a livery: an A380X livery requires the FlyByWire base aircraft, while a livery made for another developer's A380 will not work with A380X.
  • The installer targets the wrong simulator: MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024 use separate package locations.
  • The folder is nested incorrectly: the aircraft package root containing manifest.json must not be buried inside extra folders.
  • The simulator is in Safe Mode: Community add-ons are disabled until it is restarted normally.
  • The package is incompatible: forcing an older build into MSFS 2024 can produce a missing aircraft, blank displays or a loading failure.

Can I install an FSX A380 in Microsoft Flight Simulator?

No. FSX and Prepar3D aircraft use different models, gauges and package structures, so they cannot be installed as native MSFS 2020 or 2024 aircraft. For example, our legacy-simulator A380 pack is specifically for FSX and Prepar3D and should not be placed in an MSFS Community folder.
