Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024 do not include a flyable Airbus A380 by default. On Windows PC, the free FlyByWire A380X is the leading option, with separate builds for each simulator. An A380 visible as AI traffic or placed in airport scenery is not necessarily flyable. Likewise, an A380 livery supplies only paintwork and requires the exact base aircraft named by its creator.
Marketplace catalogues differ between simulator versions and consoles. Finding an aircraft on PC or Xbox does not prove that it is offered on PlayStation, and owning an MSFS 2020 product does not by itself establish native MSFS 2024 support.
What is the best A380 for MSFS 2024?
For most Windows PC simmers seeking systems depth, the FlyByWire A380X is the best A380 for MSFS 2024.
It is a purpose-built, flyable aircraft with a custom cockpit, systems and flight model rather than a reskinned default airliner. It is also free, although it remains an actively developed community aircraft, so individual systems and features can change between builds.
- Choose the A380X if you use Windows PC and want the strongest freeware option, detailed cockpit operation and ongoing development.
- Choose a paid Marketplace A380 if your platform cannot install external packages or you prefer in-simulator content management. Read the listing carefully for avionics depth, simulator version and supported platforms.
- Avoid legacy or converted packages labelled for FSX or Prepar3D. An attractive exterior model does not make them compatible with MSFS 2020 or 2024.
A complex four-engine airliner is also more demanding than a typical default aircraft. PC users should weigh systems depth against loading time and performance rather than choosing from exterior screenshots or livery counts alone.
Is the Airbus A380 free, and does A380X work in MSFS 2024?
The FlyByWire A380X is free and works in both modern simulators, provided that the package matches the installed Microsoft Flight Simulator version.
MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024 use separate builds and package locations. Do not copy an old MSFS 2020 installation into the MSFS 2024 Community folder and assume compatibility; custom displays, systems code and simulator interfaces need the correct build.

“Free” applies to the aircraft add-on, not the simulator or hardware. Microsoft Flight Simulator and a suitable Windows PC are still required.
Can you fly the Airbus A380 in MSFS 2024 on PS5 or Xbox?
Console users can fly an A380 only when a compatible aircraft is distributed through the in-simulator Marketplace for their exact console and simulator version.
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is available on PS5 and PS5 Pro, but PlayStation cannot install the externally distributed FlyByWire A380X or other Community-folder packages. MSFS 2020 was never released on PlayStation.

For an A380 in MSFS 2024 on PS5, inspect the Marketplace product page from the PlayStation version of the simulator. Do not assume that an Xbox or PC listing carries over, and do not buy a livery unless you already own its required base aircraft.
Installing the free A380X on PC
The reliable installation method is to select the correct simulator profile and keep the MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024 packages separate.
- Identify the simulator: confirm whether the target installation is Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 or 2024.
- Close the simulator: do not replace an aircraft package while Microsoft Flight Simulator is running.
- Remove obsolete copies: delete duplicate or superseded A380X folders, especially if changing release builds or installation methods.
- Select the matching package: use the installer profile or archive explicitly intended for your simulator version.
- Check the destination: make sure it uses that simulator's Community folder, not the folder belonging to the other MSFS installation.
- Restart normally: open Microsoft Flight Simulator and search the aircraft selector for the Airbus A380.

Fixing a missing A380 or blank cockpit
A missing aircraft or non-working cockpit usually points to the wrong package, a duplicate installation or an incorrect folder structure.
- Wrong simulator build: replace an MSFS 2020 package with the dedicated MSFS 2024 build, or vice versa.
- Extra nested folder: after manual extraction, files such as
manifest.jsonandlayout.jsonshould be near the add-on package root rather than buried several folders down. - Duplicate package: remove older manual copies before using an installer-managed version.
- Safe Mode: Community add-ons are disabled when the simulator starts in Safe Mode. Restart in normal mode after addressing the add-on that caused the prompt.
- Livery without a base aircraft: install the required A380 model; paint packages cannot create a flyable aircraft by themselves.
- AI-only model: traffic models generally lack the cockpit and systems required for player flight.
If the aircraft appears but its displays remain blank, check build compatibility and duplicates before changing controller or graphics settings. Those two installation errors account for many apparent cockpit failures.
Why legacy FSX A380 downloads do not work in MSFS
An Airbus A380 made for FSX or Prepar3D cannot be installed in MSFS 2020 or 2024 by copying its folder into the Community directory.
Those simulators use different aircraft models, gauges, flight dynamics and package structures. The presence of manifest.json or layout.json can help identify a modern package, but those files alone do not prove that the aircraft was built for the correct simulator.
