What AMD Radeon settings should I use for MSFS 2024?

Ian Stephens
In short

Use the best AMD Radeon settings for MSFS 2024, including Adrenalin choices for FreeSync, Anti-Lag, frame caps, FSR, stutters and cockpit clarity.

For MSFS 2024, use a custom per-game AMD Software profile: enable FreeSync and Radeon Anti-Lag, leave anti-aliasing, anisotropic filtering and tessellation application-controlled, and disable Radeon Boost, Chill, Enhanced Sync, RSR and driver-level frame generation initially. Let the simulator handle resolution scaling, upscaling, frame generation and V-Sync.

These recommendations apply to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 on Windows PCs with Radeon graphics. Xbox and PlayStation use AMD-based hardware but do not expose AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition settings.

Recommended AMD Adrenalin settings for MSFS 2024

For most Radeon systems, this quality-first baseline gives MSFS 2024 the fewest driver conflicts and the most predictable frame pacing.

AMD settingRecommended valueWhen to change it
Profile or graphics experienceCustomAvoid one-click HYPR-RX presets while establishing a baseline because they can enable several features together.
AMD FreeSyncOn or AMD OptimizedUse it with a compatible display. Disable it temporarily only when diagnosing flicker or blank-screen problems.
Radeon Anti-LagOnTurn it off as a test if a heavily main-thread-limited flight develops uneven pacing.
Radeon ChillOffEnable it only if Chill will be your single frame-rate limiter.
Radeon BoostOffIts dynamic resolution changes can soften glass-cockpit text and scenery during camera movement.
Radeon Super ResolutionOffPrefer the simulator's own render scaling or FSR implementation.
AMD Fluid Motion FramesOff initiallyTry it only after achieving stable real frames, and never stack it with in-game frame generation.
Enhanced SyncOffTest it only if ordinary FreeSync, V-Sync or frame limiting cannot remove tearing.
Radeon Image SharpeningOff initiallyUse roughly 10–20% if TAA or FSR looks soft. Excessive sharpening creates halos around instruments and buildings.
Wait for Vertical RefreshApplication controlledControl V-Sync inside MSFS 2024 rather than forcing conflicting driver behaviour.
Anti-aliasing and morphological AAUse application settings; morphological AA offDriver overrides are not a substitute for the simulator's temporal anti-aliasing.
Anisotropic filteringUse application settingsSet texture filtering inside the simulator.
Texture Filtering QualityStandardHigh is optional when image quality matters more than a small amount of GPU headroom.
Tessellation and Surface Format OptimizationApplication controlled or driver defaultDo not impose legacy overrides on the simulator.
SmartAccess Memory or Resizable BAREnabled where supportedLeave it enabled unless troubleshooting a confirmed compatibility problem.

OpenGL Triple Buffering does not improve MSFS 2024, so leave it at its default. We also recommend stock GPU tuning while testing: an undervolt that appears stable elsewhere can still cause an AMD driver timeout during a demanding flight.

How do I create an MSFS 2024 Radeon profile?

Create a dedicated game profile rather than changing AMD's global graphics settings for every application.

  1. Install a supported Radeon driver. If you are upgrading or recovering from driver errors, follow our safe graphics-driver update procedure before tuning individual options.
  2. Launch MSFS 2024 once. This helps AMD Software detect the running game and add it to the Gaming section.
  3. Select the detected simulator profile. If both a launcher and game entry appear, make sure settings apply to the process active during the flight rather than only the launcher.
  4. Choose a custom profile. Apply the baseline from the table without enabling a bundled HYPR-RX preset.
  5. Change one feature at a time. Test from the same airport, aircraft and weather conditions so traffic or scenery does not disguise the result.

A simulator or driver update can reset or replace a detected profile. If a setting suddenly stops working, check that AMD Software is still loading the correct per-game profile before reinstalling anything.

Should I use FSR, RSR or AMD Fluid Motion Frames?

Use simulator-integrated FSR and frame generation before driver-level RSR or AMD Fluid Motion Frames because the in-game methods have access to the simulator's rendering data.

  • Native resolution with TAA: best for cockpit clarity when the GPU can maintain the required performance.
  • FSR Quality: the sensible first step when GPU-limited, particularly at higher output resolutions. More aggressive modes trade instrument and distant-scenery detail for speed.
  • Radeon Super Resolution: a fallback driver upscaler that also affects the completed image and interface. It is normally unnecessary in MSFS 2024.
  • In-game frame generation: use it if the graphics menu offers a compatible option and the underlying frame rate is already stable.
  • AMD Fluid Motion Frames: optional driver-level generated frames. It can improve perceived smoothness, but it does not increase the simulator's real update rate and may produce artefacts around cockpit displays or fast camera movement.

Never run RSR on top of FSR, or driver frame generation on top of in-game frame generation. For the settings that belong inside the simulator, use our MSFS 2024 graphics baseline for render scaling, clouds, textures and LOD.

Why does MSFS 2024 still stutter on a Radeon GPU?

Most persistent MSFS 2024 stutters come from the main thread, VRAM pressure, scenery streaming or shader compilation rather than an incorrect Radeon switch.

  • GPU-limited: lower render scaling, clouds, reflections or the simulator's other GPU-heavy settings. FSR Quality is usually preferable to Radeon Boost.
  • Main-thread-limited: reduce terrain LOD, airport traffic, road traffic and other CPU-heavy simulation options. Radeon image settings will not remove this bottleneck.
  • VRAM-limited: lower texture resolution and avoid exceeding the card's memory capacity, especially at large airports with detailed add-ons.
  • First flight after a driver change: allow shaders to rebuild. Clearing the shader cache repeatedly causes another round of compilation stutter and should be reserved for corruption or persistent visual faults.
  • AMD driver timeout: restore stock GPU clocks, power limits and voltage before blaming MSFS 2024 or reinstalling the simulator.

The simulator's performance display can help distinguish messages such as Limited by MainThread from a GPU limit. Our guide to identifying MSFS 2024 CPU, GPU, VRAM and streaming bottlenecks covers the next settings to change for each case.

How do I fix tearing or blurry cockpit text?

Use one synchronisation method for tearing, and remove stacked scaling or sharpening features when cockpit displays look soft.

  • With FreeSync: enable FreeSync, leave Enhanced Sync off and cap output a few frames below the display's maximum refresh rate. If that target is not sustainable, choose a lower cap the system can hold consistently.
  • Without FreeSync: use the simulator's V-Sync setting and select a frame-rate target the PC can maintain. Do not combine it with Chill or another limiter.
  • For blurry instruments: disable Radeon Boost and RSR, use the display's native resolution, and start with TAA at 100% render scaling or FSR Quality. Add only mild sharpening if needed.
  • For frame-generation artefacts: switch off AMD Fluid Motion Frames first. If in-game frame generation is active, disable that separately to compare real rendered frames.

Multiple limiters often create the uneven pacing they were intended to cure. Choose one method using our MSFS 2024 frame-cap guidance, then verify it with frame generation disabled before adding generated frames.
