Compare the best Düsseldorf Airport EDDL scenery for MSFS, including RDPresets and JustSim, with compatibility and conflict-fix advice.
For Microsoft Flight Simulator, RDPresets Düsseldorf Airport is our best EDDL choice when terminal detail and apron atmosphere matter most. JustSim Düsseldorf is the best alternative for a simpler, potentially lighter airport. Avoid legacy FSX or Prepar3D Düsseldorf packages: they are not native MSFS scenery and cannot simply be copied across.
Best EDDL scenery add-ons compared
| Scenery | Best for | Main strengths | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|
| RDPresets Düsseldorf Airport | Maximum visual detail | Detailed airport-specific terminals, apron treatment, ground textures and surrounding structures | Dense terminal areas and interiors can cost performance; use any supplied configuration options where available |
| JustSim Düsseldorf Airport | A practical payware replacement | Recognisable EDDL layout, custom buildings and a generally more restrained presentation | Check the exact simulator compatibility and update entitlement attached to the edition being sold |
| Default EDDL | Performance and occasional visits | No extra installation, storage use or third-party scenery conflicts | Less airport-specific modelling and atmosphere than either payware option |
We would choose RDPresets for close-up airliner operations, screenshots and regular Düsseldorf flying. Choose JustSim when you want a complete custom airport without making terminal detail the overriding priority. Performance is still machine- and settings-dependent, so “less detailed” does not guarantee a higher frame rate in every configuration.
What should accurate Düsseldorf Airport scenery include?
A good EDDL add-on must improve the working airport, not merely replace its terminal textures. Our broader checklist for comparing MSFS scenery explains the general criteria; at Düsseldorf, these details deserve particular attention:
- Runway and taxiway geometry: both 05/23 runway pairs, correct runway starts, holding points, signs and sensible taxi routing.
- Terminal layout: recognisable Terminal A, B and C piers, correctly positioned jetways, remote stands and service roads.
- Airport landmarks: the terminal roofline, control tower, elevated SkyTrain infrastructure and landside structures should look specific to Düsseldorf.
- Usable gates: jetways and ground services should operate without clipping through buildings or placing the aircraft over stand markings.
- Night operations: apron floodlighting and taxiway lighting should remain readable without turning the terminal into an over-bright glow.
- Traffic compatibility: optional static aircraft are attractive in screenshots but can occupy gates needed by live or offline AI traffic.
SID, STAR and approach data largely come from the simulator's navigation database rather than the visible terminal model. Buying detailed EDDL scenery will not, by itself, correct an outdated procedure in an aircraft's flight-management system.
Does EDDL scenery work in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024?
An MSFS 2020 airport should be treated as compatible with MSFS 2024 only when its developer or Marketplace listing explicitly says so. Conventional airport packages may load in both simulators, but changes to materials, terrain, jetways and package handling can reveal faults that were not present in MSFS 2020.
On PC, manually installed scenery normally belongs in the active Community folder. Locate that folder through your installation rather than relying on a path copied from another user, because it varies by simulator, storefront and custom package location. The package folder should contain files such as manifest.json and layout.json at its top level, not inside an accidental second nested folder.
Xbox and PlayStation users cannot sideload a PC download. The scenery must be available through the simulator's Marketplace for that console and simulator edition. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 never appeared on PlayStation; PlayStation compatibility applies only to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.
Can FSX or Prepar3D Düsseldorf scenery be used in MSFS?
No. Legacy BGL files, models and materials are not drop-in compatible with Microsoft Flight Simulator. For example, our older Düsseldorf pack for FSX and Prepar3D is useful only in those named simulators; placing it in the MSFS Community folder will not convert it. Proper conversion requires the original development assets and substantial work in the MSFS SDK.
Why does EDDL show double buildings or broken jetways?
Most broken Düsseldorf installations are caused by two airport packages editing EDDL at once. Keep one complete EDDL replacement enabled and remove old freeware, enhancement packages or previous editions before troubleshooting anything else.
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Double terminals, jetways or markings | Two EDDL packages are active | Disable every Düsseldorf add-on, then enable only the chosen scenery and restart the simulator |
| Airport does not appear | Nested PC folder, disabled library item or wrong simulator build | Check the package root, installation status and stated MSFS 2020/2024 compatibility |
| Pink or chequered surfaces | Missing textures, a damaged installation or absent dependency | Reinstall the matching package and any dependency named by its documentation |
| Runway bumps or terrain walls | Conflicting airport or elevation data | Remove older EDDL fixes and test with only the base simulator and one airport package |
| Low frame rate at the terminal | Detailed interiors, static aircraft, traffic or high object detail | Disable optional features where supported, reduce traffic and then adjust Object Level of Detail |
| Incorrect procedure or ILS behaviour | Airport data or navigation-data conflict | Check both the scenery package and any separately installed navigation data |
Clearing the rolling cache is not the first fix for duplicated objects: a cache reset cannot resolve two packages drawing the same terminal. Establish a clean one-airport baseline first.
Is freeware EDDL scenery worth using?
Freeware can be sufficient when it corrects the layout and adds a few recognisable buildings without burdening performance. Quality and simulator-version support vary, however, so check that the package is a native MSFS airport, has clear installation instructions and is not merely an overlay designed for another EDDL product.
Our MSFS mods library is the appropriate place to check for community scenery. Never stack a freeware Düsseldorf enhancement over RDPresets or JustSim unless its documentation explicitly names that combination as compatible.
