Compare the best MSFS 2024 add-ons for Xbox, including aircraft, airports and scenery, with compatibility and Series S/X buying checks.
Among the best MSFS 2024 Xbox add-ons are the PMDG 737-800, SimWorks Studios Kodiak 100, IndiaFoxtEcho F-35, quality Marketplace airports from FlyTampa or iniBuilds, and Orbx regional scenery. Buy only listings marked for both Xbox and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024; PC downloads and external utilities cannot be installed on the console.
Which MSFS 2024 Xbox add-ons are best?
For most Xbox simmers, the best purchase is one detailed aircraft they will fly regularly, followed by an upgraded home airport or favourite region. These are the products and categories we would check first, provided the individual Marketplace listing confirms Xbox and MSFS 2024 support.
| Add-on | Best for | Why it stands out | What to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| PMDG 737-800 | Boeing airline operations | Detailed systems, credible procedures and several practical operating roles | Confirm that the specific edition is approved for MSFS 2024 on Xbox, not merely the older simulator |
| SimWorks Studios Kodiak 100 | Bush, cargo and short-field flying | A versatile turboprop suited to paved strips, remote airfields and VFR touring | Use the supported MSFS 2024 package and check any avionics-related release notes |
| IndiaFoxtEcho F-35 | Modern military flying | Distinct F-35 variants, advanced displays and short-take-off or vertical-landing operations | Complex displays and detailed airports can place a heavier load on the console |
| Just Flight BAe 146 Professional | Classic regional airline routes | Hands-on systems and a different workload from modern automated airliners | Verify the Xbox badge and exact simulator version before purchase |
| FlyingIron Spitfire Mk IX | Warbird flying | Rewarding manual handling without requiring an airliner-sized learning commitment | Pedals help, although careful controller sensitivity settings are workable |
| FlyTampa or iniBuilds airport | A frequently used hub | An airport you visit repeatedly provides better value than a famous field you rarely use | Check for overlap with handcrafted or previously installed airport scenery |
| Orbx regional or landmark scenery | Low-level VFR flying | Adds recognisable structures and detail across a wider area than one airport | Avoid overlapping regional, city and airport packages |
Our category-based aircraft comparison covers more airliners, general-aviation aircraft, helicopters and military choices. For scenery, compare the fields you actually fly through against our recommended MSFS 2024 airport upgrades.
What should you buy first on Xbox?
Buy an aircraft first if you want a different flying experience; buy scenery first if you already enjoy the default fleet and repeatedly use the same location.
- Choose one aircraft for your normal flying. A detailed 737 is poor value if you mainly fly remote VFR routes, while the Kodiak is less useful to someone focused on scheduled jet procedures.
- Upgrade one home airport. This improves departures and arrivals on many flights without filling the library with scenery you seldom see.
- Add regional scenery selectively. Landmark and city packs make the biggest difference when flying below the flight levels.
- Leave liveries until last. They add variety but do not improve systems, handling or scenery, and large collections consume storage and complicate fault-finding.
A mistake we see constantly is stacking a complex aircraft, a detailed international hub, a city pack and high traffic in one session. Each product may work correctly by itself, yet the combination can trigger stutters, missing textures or a return to the Xbox dashboard.
How do I check that an add-on works on Xbox?
An add-on is suitable only when its in-simulator Marketplace listing identifies both Xbox and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 compatibility.
- Check the platform label. A product demonstrated on PC is not automatically available on Xbox.
- Check the simulator generation. An MSFS 2020 Marketplace release does not become a supported 2024 product merely because it was bought on the same account.
- Read the dependencies. Some enhancement packages require a particular base aircraft or an edition-specific aircraft that you may not own.
- Look beyond the star rating. Reviews may concern another simulator version or may not reveal performance on Xbox Series S.
- Install one major package at a time. Test it before adding another aircraft, airport or regional pack, so any conflict has an obvious cause.
Once selected, use our Xbox Marketplace installation and library-management steps to download, enable or remove the package.
Do MSFS 2020 Xbox add-ons carry over to MSFS 2024?
Only products that their publisher has prepared and approved for MSFS 2024 should be treated as compatible. A previous purchase may appear in the MSFS 2024 library after migration, but ownership alone does not prove that the package will load or work correctly.
Do not repurchase an add-on simply because the older copy is missing. Check the product listing and library first; publishers may release compatibility updates, separate 2024 editions or no conversion at all.
Which popular MSFS add-ons do not work on Xbox?
Xbox cannot install ordinary Community-folder packages or Windows companion programs, so many well-known PC add-ons have no console equivalent.
- Packages that instruct you to copy files into
Community - Installers supplied as Windows
.exeprograms - Traffic, ground-service or ATC tools that run as separate applications
- Add-ons requiring a PC-side injector or background service
- PC editions of products such as FlyByWire downloads, Fenix aircraft, GSX, FSLTL and external ATC clients, unless a distinct Xbox Marketplace edition is released
Free console content must also come through the in-simulator Marketplace. Our guide to free Xbox-compatible aircraft, scenery and liveries explains what can be installed without sideloading PC files.
Will the same add-ons run on Xbox Series S and Series X?
Series S and Series X normally share Xbox Marketplace compatibility, but Series X has more performance headroom for demanding aircraft and dense scenery combinations.
- Avoid combining several overlapping airport, city and regional packages.
- Reduce AI, live or ground traffic when a detailed hub performs poorly.
- Test the same aircraft at a default airport; if it works there, the third-party airport or scenery combination is the likely problem.
- Disable the newest package first after crashes begin rather than reinstalling the whole simulator.
- Restart Microsoft Flight Simulator after installing or removing a large package.
Deleting Xbox reserved space should not be the first troubleshooting step because it can force substantial content to download again. Disable conflicting packages and test a clean aircraft-and-airport combination before taking that measure.
