Choose ChasePlane if your priority is creating, saving and switching precise cockpit, cabin and external views in Microsoft Flight Simulator. Choose FSRealistic for extra aircraft sounds, vibration, turbulence and touchdown movement. They can run together on PC, but disable overlapping camera-motion effects to prevent exaggerated shaking.

How do ChasePlane and FSRealistic differ?

ChasePlane is primarily a camera-management tool, while FSRealistic adds sensory effects that react to the aircraft and flight conditions. They overlap only where both products can introduce camera movement.

For a single purchase, choose the product that fixes the limitation you encounter on nearly every flight.

Choose ChasePlane when camera control is the problem

ChasePlane is the better choice when you repeatedly rebuild the same pilot, overhead-panel, instrument, wing or cabin views. Its value comes from per-aircraft presets, quick switching and controlled transitions rather than from making the graphics themselves look better.

Choose FSRealistic when the simulator feels too clean

FSRealistic is the stronger choice when the default sound and movement feel subdued. It can add airframe and wind noise, engine vibration, ground-roll effects, turbulence movement and a more pronounced touchdown response.

Those effects need restraint. Maximum intensity can make a light-aircraft landing look violent, while detailed add-on aircraft may already provide some of the same rattles, wind noise or touchdown sounds. Choose neither if the built-in camera already works for you

Microsoft Flight Simulator already provides custom cockpit views and external camera controls. If you need only a few saved eyepoints, the built-in system may be enough, and our comparison of free camera alternatives explains the practical options before you buy another utility.

Can ChasePlane and FSRealistic be used together?

Yes, ChasePlane and FSRealistic can complement each other on PC when one manages views and only one controls each type of camera movement. The common mistake we see is stacking FSRealistic movement, ChasePlane motion and the simulator's own camera shake at high intensity.

  1. Create neutral ChasePlane views. Temporarily disable dynamic movement while positioning and saving each cockpit or external preset.
  2. Choose one movement engine. If ChasePlane handles turbulence and head movement, disable the equivalent FSRealistic camera effects. If you prefer FSRealistic's movement, keep ChasePlane focused on view positions and transitions.
  3. Retain FSRealistic audio. Its sound layers can remain active even when overlapping camera movement is disabled.
  4. Tune one aircraft at a time. A setting that suits a jet may be excessive in a light piston aircraft or helicopter.
  5. Separate the controls. Avoid assigning the same keyboard, hat-switch or controller input to ChasePlane, the simulator and another camera utility.

Do either of these add-ons improve flight physics?

Neither ChasePlane nor FSRealistic changes the underlying aerodynamics, systems modelling or tyre and suspension physics. ChasePlane controls the viewpoint; FSRealistic reads simulator data and presents reactions through sound and camera movement.

A stronger touchdown thump therefore does not prove that the landing was objectively hard. If you want recorded sink rate, bounce detection or scored landing data, compare dedicated landing-feedback and analysis tools instead. FSRealistic's vibration also does not add physical force feedback to ordinary controls.

Why are the views shaking, snapping or not connecting?

Excessive movement usually comes from duplicate effects, while snapping and connection failures are more often caused by conflicting controls, the wrong aircraft profile or a companion application that has not connected to the simulator.

  • Double bounce or violent shaking: disable matching turbulence, touchdown or head-movement effects in all but one source, then increase intensity gradually.
  • Views drift or snap away: check for a noisy camera axis, duplicated hat-switch assignment or a ChasePlane shortcut also bound inside Microsoft Flight Simulator.
  • The add-on does nothing: confirm that its desktop application is running, the correct MSFS release is selected and the SimConnect connection is established after the flight loads. Following a major simulator update, update the companion application before rebuilding profiles.
  • A saved position is wrong in another aircraft: load the correct aircraft profile. Closely related variants can still have different cockpit geometry and eyepoints.
  • Sounds are cluttered or repeated: compare the aircraft's native sounds with FSRealistic one category at a time and disable whichever version is less convincing.

Can you use ChasePlane or FSRealistic on Xbox or PS5?

No. Both are Windows companion applications and cannot be installed on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 or PS5 Pro. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 is not available on PlayStation, while Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is, but neither console platform can run these external utilities.

They are also not conventional packages to copy into the MSFS Community folder. Console users must rely on the simulator's built-in camera controls and effects, or add-ons explicitly released with console support.

The practical recommendation

If you regularly fight the camera or need repeatable views, choose ChasePlane. If the stock camera already suits you but the aircraft lacks movement and acoustic character, choose FSRealistic. Buy both only when you want ChasePlane's view workflow plus FSRealistic's audio and effects—and nominate one product as the sole source of overlapping camera motion.
