Does ChasePlane support replay in Microsoft Flight Simulator?

Adam McEnroe
In short

ChasePlane does not replay aircraft movement in MSFS. Learn how to pair it with replay tools and prevent camera conflicts.

No. ChasePlane does not record or replay aircraft movement in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 or 2024. It is a camera-management utility for saving views, switching presets and adding camera motion. Use the simulator's replay function or a dedicated replay add-on, then use ChasePlane to frame the playback.

What does ChasePlane do during a replay?

ChasePlane controls the viewpoint while another system handles the recorded flight. It can provide cockpit, external and fixed-position views during playback, but it does not record the aircraft's position, controls, systems or traffic.

This distinction matters because “replay” can describe three different jobs:

  • Flight replay records aircraft state so the flight can be played again.
  • Camera control determines where the viewpoint sits and how it moves.
  • Video capture saves what appears on screen as a video file.

ChasePlane handles camera control. Our walkthrough of MSFS recording and playback options covers the tools used for the actual flight replay.

Can you use ChasePlane with a replay tool?

Yes, ChasePlane can usually control views while Microsoft Flight Simulator or a separate replay add-on plays the flight. This is a companion workflow rather than built-in replay support.

  1. Record the flight with the simulator's replay facility or a dedicated replay utility.
  2. Begin playback and pause at the point where you want to prepare the shot.
  3. Select a ChasePlane view or position the camera for the required cockpit, external or ground angle.
  4. Resume the replay and capture the result with separate video-recording software if you need a video file.

A mistake we see constantly is allowing both applications to drive the camera. If the replay utility includes automatic camera changes, disable those changes before controlling the view through ChasePlane. Also check for duplicated keyboard or controller bindings when a view jumps, resets or refuses to move.

Scrubbing backwards or jumping along a replay timeline can reset an aircraft-relative camera in some workflows. Let the replay settle after the jump, then select the ChasePlane preset again. If ChasePlane itself is not connecting correctly, follow our ChasePlane setup and connection procedure for MSFS 2020 and 2024.

Which tool should you use for replay?

Choose the tool according to what must be recorded, not according to the camera angle you want afterwards.

RequirementAppropriate tool
Play the aircraft's movement againMSFS replay facility or a dedicated replay add-on
Change viewpoints during playbackChasePlane or the simulator's camera controls
Save a finished videoScreen or video-capture software
Review only what was originally shownA normal video recording

A video recording cannot be rotated afterwards to reveal a different angle, while a flight-state replay normally can. For a closer comparison, see our breakdown of MSFS camera add-ons and dedicated replay utilities.

Does ChasePlane save replay videos?

No, ChasePlane does not replace video-capture software. Camera movement or cinematic sequencing changes what Microsoft Flight Simulator displays, but a separate recorder is still needed to create a shareable video file.

ChasePlane is also an external PC utility, so this combined camera-and-replay workflow does not apply to the Xbox or PlayStation editions of Microsoft Flight Simulator.
