How do I copy a control profile to all MSFS 2024 aircraft?

In Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, you do not need to duplicate a control profile for every aeroplane. Select the controller, open Aircraft Controls, choose your saved custom preset, then use the profile manager’s Apply to all aircraft option. Repeat this separately for each connected device, including the throttle and pedals.

How to apply one control profile to every aircraft

Use an editable custom preset rather than trying to modify a protected default preset.

1. Open Controls from the simulator’s settings and select an aircraft if one is not already loaded or selected.
2. Select the correct device, such as your yoke, joystick, gamepad, throttle quadrant or rudder pedals.
3. Open Aircraft Controls. General Controls contains shared menu, camera and interface commands rather than the aircraft-specific flying assignments covered here.
4. Select your custom preset. If you are using a built-in preset, duplicate it, give the copy a recognisable name and make your changes there. Our controller preset configuration walkthrough covers that process in detail.
5. Open the profile or preset manager, normally through the cog beside the active preset, and choose Apply to all aircraft.
6. Repeat for every peripheral. Applying the yoke preset does not also assign the throttle or pedal presets.
7. Check a second aircraft. Open Controls, select the same device and confirm that your custom preset is shown as the active Aircraft Controls profile.

The all-aircraft command assigns the selected preset to those aircraft; it does not create a separate editable copy for each one. Changing that shared preset therefore affects the aircraft still assigned to it.

Does Apply to all aircraft cover every controller?

No. MSFS 2024 stores control profiles separately for each recognised input device.

• A yoke or joystick has its own preset.
• A throttle quadrant has another preset.
• Rudder pedals, a gamepad, keyboard and mouse are separate devices.
• General Controls and Aircraft Controls are also handled separately.

Why does an aircraft still load the wrong profile?

An individual aircraft can retain a different preset association even when the custom profile itself has been saved correctly.

• Wrong device selected: verify the highlighted device before checking the active preset.
• Wrong control category: an Aircraft Controls binding will not appear while viewing General Controls, and vice versa.
• Preset applied only to one aircraft: select the intended custom preset and run Apply to all aircraft again.
• Aircraft-specific override: choose the shared preset for that aircraft, or keep the override if the aeroplane needs different assignments.
• Duplicate bindings: search by input to see whether the same lever, button or axis has been assigned to conflicting commands.
• Different device identity: if the simulator recognises replacement or duplicate hardware as another device, assign the preset to that device separately.

Should every aircraft use the same control profile?

One shared preset works well for aircraft using the same basic yoke, throttle, propeller, mixture, brake and view controls. Specialised aircraft often deserve a separate profile.

• Airliners may need engine-specific throttle axes, reversers or detent assignments.
• Helicopters need collective and anti-torque controls that do not map cleanly to a fixed-wing layout.
• Aircraft with four engines may require different axis assignments from twins and single-engine aeroplanes.
• Some add-on aircraft use specialised control events rather than the standard simulator commands.

Do I need to copy any profile files manually?

No. Assign and duplicate control presets through the MSFS 2024 Controls interface. The Community folder is for add-on content, not controller profiles, and moving configuration files manually can leave the simulator displaying the wrong preset or recreating its defaults.
