Microsoft Flight Simulator VR on Xbox is not supported. Learn why headsets cannot connect and what PC hardware and edition you need instead.
No. Microsoft Flight Simulator does not support VR on Xbox Series X or Series S, for either Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 or 2024. Xbox consoles have no compatible VR mode or headset support for the simulator. To fly in VR, you must run the PC version with supported PC VR hardware.
Why doesn't VR work on Xbox Series X|S?
The Xbox editions of Microsoft Flight Simulator have no VR mode, and Xbox Series X|S does not support PC VR headsets. The simulator's PC VR commands and OpenXR connection are therefore unavailable on the console edition.
| Platform | MSFS versions | VR support |
|---|---|---|
| Xbox Series X|S | 2020 and 2024 | No |
| Windows PC | 2020 and 2024 | Yes, with compatible PC VR hardware |
This is a platform limitation rather than a disabled graphics setting. Reinstalling the simulator, changing display settings or adding a peripheral will not expose a hidden Xbox VR option.
Can I connect a Meta Quest headset to Xbox?
No. Connecting a Meta Quest or another PC VR headset by USB, wireless streaming or an adapter will not add VR support to Microsoft Flight Simulator on Xbox. The console cannot supply the required head-tracked, stereoscopic VR output.
Remote-play or screen-streaming methods may place a flat Xbox picture inside a virtual display, but that is not simulator VR: looking around does not move your viewpoint naturally inside the cockpit. A Quest owner instead needs the Windows edition; our guide covers the supported Quest 3 connection methods for the PC version.
What do I need to play Microsoft Flight Simulator in VR?
You need to run Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 or 2024 on a suitably powerful Windows PC with a compatible headset and its OpenXR runtime.
- The PC edition: VR cannot be launched from an Xbox console or through Xbox cloud streaming.
- A supported PC VR headset: Its software and OpenXR runtime must be installed and working in Windows.
- A VR-capable PC: VR renders a demanding view for each eye, so requirements are higher than ordinary monitor play. Use our PC and headset hardware guidance before buying equipment.
- Suitable controls: An Xbox controller can still control the PC simulator in VR, although flight controls make cockpit operation easier.
If your computer meets those requirements, follow our explanation of activating and using VR in Microsoft Flight Simulator. Owning or playing the Xbox edition does not make the console VR-capable; any PC entitlement depends on how you bought or access the simulator.
Is there an Xbox VR workaround?
There is no genuine Xbox VR workaround for Microsoft Flight Simulator. No mod, cable, headset adapter or console setting can add the missing platform support. Moving to the Windows PC edition is the practical route if head-tracked cockpit VR is the goal.
