To clear or delete the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 rolling cache, open Settings > General > Online, select Delete Rolling Cache File, then Apply & Save. Leave Rolling Cache on to rebuild it as scenery streams, or switch it off to prevent recreation. Deleting this temporary file does not remove add-ons, saves or installed content.

How do I clear or delete the MSFS 2024 rolling cache?

In the Sim Update 5 interface on PC and Xbox Series X|S, the path is Settings > General > Online > Rolling Cache.

1. Return to the main menu. Leave any active flight and allow Content Manager downloads to finish.
2. Open Settings > General > Online. Scroll to the Rolling Cache section.
3. Record the PC settings if needed. Note the values shown beside Rolling Cache Path and Rolling Cache Limit before changing them.
4. Select Delete Rolling Cache File. Confirm the deletion if prompted. Clearing and deleting the rolling cache mean the same thing here: the simulator removes its temporary streamed-scenery container.
5. Select Apply & Save. Do not leave the page without applying the change.
6. Restart MSFS 2024 for a clean rebuild. On Xbox, fully quit the title rather than leaving it in Quick Resume.

Xbox uses the same in-game path and control names, but it does not provide a browsable Rolling Cache Path. If a later simulator update reorganises Settings, use the Settings search for Rolling Cache; do not delete folders through Content Manager as a substitute.

MSFS 2024 rolling cache location on PC

On PC, the location displayed under Settings > General > Online > Rolling Cache Path is the authoritative location of your cache file.

The path is configurable, so do not assume the file remains on the Windows drive or beside the simulator installation. If you have never moved it, these are the standard locations:

You can paste the relevant path into the File Explorer address bar. The AppData directory is hidden by default, but the environment variables above open it without changing hidden-file settings. A custom cache location shown inside MSFS 2024 takes precedence over either default.

Is the rolling cache inside Packages, Community or Official?

No. ROLLINGCACHE.CCC is a configurable cache file, while Packages, Community and Official contain installed simulator packages and add-ons.

A mistake we see constantly is deleting a package folder while trying to clear streamed scenery. Do not remove Community, Official, the whole Packages directory or the Microsoft Store LocalCache directory. Those are not interchangeable with the rolling-cache file.

Can I delete ROLLINGCACHE.CCC manually?

Yes, but only after the in-game command has failed and MSFS 2024 is completely closed.

1. Read and record Rolling Cache Path inside the simulator.
2. Quit MSFS 2024. Make sure it is no longer running or suspended.
3. Open the recorded location and delete only ROLLINGCACHE.CCC.
4. Restart the simulator and configure Rolling Cache again.

How is the MSFS 2024 rolling cache rebuilt?

With Rolling Cache enabled, MSFS 2024 creates a fresh cache container and repopulates it automatically as streamed terrain and imagery arrive.

1. Delete the old cache using Delete Rolling Cache File.
2. Set Rolling Cache to On.
3. Choose the limit and location on PC. Use a fast internal SSD with enough free space; avoid removable drives, network locations and synchronised folders.
4. Select Apply & Save and fully restart the simulator.
5. Fly normally. The cache fills with the areas you visit rather than downloading an entire region in advance.

The new file may appear immediately and may reserve its configured amount of disk space. That does not mean the old scenery data has returned. Previously visited areas still need to be streamed again, so the first flight after rebuilding can use more bandwidth and take longer to sharpen.

How to turn off Rolling Cache in MSFS 2024

Set Rolling Cache to Off, apply the setting and restart MSFS 2024; unlike a simple deletion, this prevents the simulator from rebuilding a new cache.

1. Delete the existing file first if desired. While the cache is still enabled, select Delete Rolling Cache File. Doing this first avoids the Delete control becoming unavailable after the switch is turned off.
2. Set Rolling Cache to Off.
3. Select Apply & Save.
4. Fully quit and restart MSFS 2024.
5. Verify that Rolling Cache remains Off. Do not re-enable it unless you want a new cache created.

Switching the feature off and deleting its existing file are separate actions. If you only switch it off, a residual file may remain on PC even though the simulator is no longer using or updating it. You can remove that file manually after closing the simulator, using the configured path shown above.

Turning the cache off is useful as a troubleshooting test, on a PC with limited storage, or when a reliable unrestricted connection makes repeated local caching unnecessary. Keeping it enabled is often more useful when you repeatedly fly over the same areas or want to reduce repeat downloads.

To clear the cache on Xbox, use MSFS 2024’s in-game rolling-cache control rather than Xbox saved-data or reserved-space tools.

1. Open Settings > General > Online.
2. Find Rolling Cache and select Delete Rolling Cache File.
3. Select Apply & Save.
4. Open the Xbox guide, highlight MSFS 2024 and choose Quit. Launch it again normally instead of resuming through Quick Resume.

No. Deleting the in-game rolling cache is a narrow reset of temporary streamed-world data; clearing Xbox reserved space or saved data is a broader recovery action with different consequences.

• In-game rolling-cache deletion: removes only cached streamed scenery and allows MSFS 2024 to recreate it safely.
• Reserved-space deletion: can remove other locally held simulator data and trigger rebuilding or additional downloads.
• Saved-data deletion: can affect local settings or progress before cloud synchronisation. Never choose Delete everywhere merely to clear the rolling cache.

Use the broader Xbox resets only when troubleshooting instructions specifically call for them, not as the normal “vider le cache MSFS Xbox” procedure.

Will deleting the rolling cache remove add-ons or saves?

No. Deleting the MSFS 2024 rolling cache removes temporary streamed-world data, not installed content, add-ons or simulator progress.

• Removed: terrain, aerial imagery and related streamed data held in ROLLINGCACHE.CCC.
• Not removed: Community add-ons, Marketplace packages, installed aircraft, offline content, controller profiles, logbook records, flight plans, Career Mode progress and cloud saves.
• Expected afterwards: scenery must be downloaded again as you revisit it, temporarily increasing bandwidth use.

When should I clear the MSFS 2024 rolling cache?

Clear or rebuild the cache when the same malformed or stale terrain repeatedly appears in one area, the file will not update correctly, or you are moving it to another PC drive.

It is also a reasonable diagnostic step after an update if the fault is confined to streamed scenery. It is unlikely to fix aircraft systems, control assignments, menu faults, crashes caused by add-ons or a complete loss of online services.

Should I clear it after every simulator update?

No. Routine deletion after every update wastes bandwidth and usually provides no benefit.

Rebuild it only when there is evidence that cached world data is stale or damaged. A newly released update alone is not evidence of cache corruption.

What if the rolling cache will not delete or the problem remains?

A greyed-out Delete control usually means no cache exists or Rolling Cache is already off; persistent scenery trouble after deletion usually points to another cause.
