Where can I download free MSFS liveries?

Adam McEnroe
In short

Find free Microsoft Flight Simulator liveries, choose files that match your aircraft, and understand the PC and console installation limits.

You can download free Microsoft Flight Simulator liveries from Fly Away Simulation’s MSFS freeware library and, when free packs are offered, from the simulator’s built-in Marketplace. PC users can install Community-folder downloads; Xbox and PlayStation users are limited to add-ons distributed through the simulator’s supported in-game system.

What is the best place to get free MSFS liveries?

For PC, our MSFS freeware downloads library provides manually downloadable aircraft repaints and other add-ons. Listings identify the intended aircraft, simulator release and any required base package.

If you want recommendations rather than browsing individual files, start with our curated selection of worthwhile free MSFS liveries.

How do I choose the correct livery file?

A livery must be made for the exact aircraft model you have installed. Repaints for two aircraft with the same real-world name are not necessarily interchangeable because each package can use different 3D models, texture layouts and internal identifiers.

  • Check the simulator: Look for explicit Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 or 2024 compatibility. Do not assume every 2020 package works unchanged in 2024.
  • Match the aircraft package: A repaint for a default A320neo may not work with a third-party A320neo.
  • Read the dependencies: Most livery downloads contain textures only. They do not include the aircraft unless the listing clearly says otherwise.
  • Confirm the platform: Community-folder packages are for PC. A downloadable ZIP file cannot be copied into the console versions.

This model matching is the mistake we see most often. Our explanation of finding airline repaints for the correct add-on aircraft covers the distinction in more detail.

Can Xbox and PlayStation use downloaded liveries?

Console players cannot manually install third-party livery folders downloaded through a web browser. They must obtain compatible liveries through the simulator’s supported in-game content system, where free availability depends on the package and platform.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 is available on PC and Xbox, not PlayStation. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro, but the PlayStation release does not make PC Community-folder downloads compatible with the console.

How do I install a free livery on PC?

Most manually downloaded liveries are extracted and placed in the Microsoft Flight Simulator Community folder. The folder location varies with the simulator release, installation provider and any custom package path, so follow our Community-folder installation steps for MSFS 2020 and 2024 rather than guessing the location.

  1. Download and extract the archive. Do not place the unopened ZIP or RAR file in Community.
  2. Find the actual package folder. It will normally contain files such as manifest.json and layout.json.
  3. Copy that package into Community. Avoid an extra wrapper folder between Community and the package files.
  4. Restart the simulator. Select the repaint from the aircraft’s available liveries or variants.

Why does a downloaded livery not appear?

A missing livery usually means the package is nested too deeply, targets a different aircraft or depends on a base aircraft that is not installed. Check those points before reinstalling the simulator.

  • Open the package and remove any unnecessary outer folder created during extraction.
  • Verify that the repaint names your exact aircraft package, not merely the same aircraft type.
  • Check whether it was built for MSFS 2020, MSFS 2024 or both.
  • Temporarily remove duplicate or older versions of the same repaint.
  • If textures appear pink or chequered, remove the package and look for a compatible update; that symptom generally indicates missing or incorrect texture references.
