Are AFCAD files the same as full airport scenery?
No. An AFCAD normally changes the airport facility data used by FS2004, including runway and taxiway geometry, parking positions, gate assignments and AI routing. It does not necessarily add detailed terminals, custom ground textures, landmarks or photoreal terrain.
Choose an AFCAD when accurate parking and AI behaviour matter most. Choose a dedicated scenery package when you want a more substantial visual replacement, but check its documentation because the contents vary between downloads.
How do I install Greece scenery in FS2004?
Most FS2004 scenery is installed by extracting it into a separate folder and registering that folder in the simulator's Scenery Library.
- Extract the archive first. Do not point FS2004 at a ZIP file. Read the included instructions before moving anything.
- Check the folder structure. The package's parent folder should contain a
sceneryfolder and, where required, atexturefolder. - Create a folder for loose AFCAD files. For example, create
Addon Scenery\Greece AFCAD\sceneryand place the supplied BGL files inside itsscenerysubfolder. - Register the parent folder. Open FS2004's Scenery Library, add the folder containing
scenery, enable it and place airport-specific scenery above broader regional scenery. - Restart FS2004. Allow the simulator to rebuild its scenery index, then load a flight at the affected airport.
A common mistake is an extra nested directory such as Greece\Greece\scenery. FS2004 must be registered to the folder immediately above scenery. If FS2004 is installed under a protected Windows folder, also verify that the files were actually copied rather than blocked or redirected by Windows permissions.
Can I combine several Greek airport add-ons?
You can combine packages covering different airports, but avoid running two airport-layout BGL files for the same ICAO code. A detailed Samos or Athens package may already contain its own AFCAD, so enabling another LGSM or LGAV layout can produce duplicate parking, conflicting taxiways or misplaced AI aircraft.
Keep the dedicated airport above broad regional scenery in the Scenery Library, then disable the duplicate AFCAD belonging to that airport. Layer priority alone does not always cure two active airport definitions; move the unwanted BGL outside every active scenery folder rather than deleting it immediately.
Why does the installed Greek airport look wrong?
Missing scenery usually means the wrong folder was registered, while duplicated buildings or parking positions usually indicate overlapping airport files.
- No visible change: confirm that the BGL files are extracted, the scenery area is enabled and FS2004 has been restarted.
- Duplicate gates or AI aircraft: search active scenery folders for another BGL containing the airport's ICAO code.
- Sunken or raised runways: temporarily disable regional mesh or another airport package; this is normally an elevation or flatten conflict rather than a missing texture.
- Black or untextured objects: check that the supplied
texturefolder remained besidescenery. - Simulator crash near the airport: remove the newest package, restore it from a clean extraction and re-enable its files in small groups to identify the conflicting BGL.
