Can you download and install add-ons for Aerofly FS 4?

Adam McEnroe
In short

Learn how to install Aerofly FS 4 add-ons, use the correct aircraft or scenery folder, and fix content that does not appear.

Yes. Aerofly FS 4 supports official downloadable content and manually installed community add-ons on desktop systems. Official packs are installed through the store or library tied to your copy; freeware aircraft, liveries and scenery are normally extracted into the Aerofly FS 4 user-content folder, not the simulator’s programme folder.

Which Aerofly FS 4 add-ons can you install?

You can install official content made for Aerofly FS 4 and compatible community packages, but add-ons from another simulator are not interchangeable.

Content typeInstallation methodMain caveat
Official aircraft or sceneryDownloaded and managed by the store or library attached to your copyIt must be licensed for the same account and platform
Community aircraft and liveriesExtracted into the user aircraft directoryThe package must explicitly support Aerofly FS 4
Community sceneryExtracted while preserving its scenery folder structureSome packages contain several scenery components that must stay together
Aerofly FS 2 or mobile contentNot automatically compatibleOlder files may require conversion or an FS 4 update from their author

Before adding another aeroplane, check which aircraft are already supplied with each Aerofly FS 4 edition. Some aircraft that appear to be missing are part of an official add-on package rather than a manually installed download.

How do you install official Aerofly FS 4 content?

Official DLC should be installed through the storefront or game library that manages Aerofly FS 4.

  1. Open the simulator’s library entry. Locate the available or owned downloadable content associated with Aerofly FS 4.
  2. Acquire or enable the package. Make sure you are using the same account and platform on which the simulator is licensed.
  3. Allow the platform to finish downloading. Do not copy official DLC manually into the user-content folders.
  4. Restart Aerofly FS 4. Aircraft should become available in the aircraft selector, while scenery appears when you visit its covered area.

How do you manually install Aerofly FS 4 add-ons?

Manual installation means extracting the package and merging its supplied folders into the Aerofly FS 4 user directory.

  1. Confirm the simulator version. The download should say Aerofly FS 4, not merely “Aerofly” or Aerofly FS 2. Check its included instructions for required aircraft or other dependencies.
  2. Extract the archive completely. Aerofly FS 4 cannot load an aircraft or scenery package left inside a ZIP, RAR or 7z archive.
  3. Find the user-content directory. Common defaults are shown below. On Windows, Documents may be redirected into OneDrive; use the Documents folder associated with your Windows account.
  4. Preserve the supplied structure. If the archive contains top-level aircraft and scenery folders, merge those into the Aerofly FS 4 user directory. If it contains one complete aircraft folder, place that folder under aircraft.
  5. Restart the simulator. Aerofly FS 4 generally scans user content during start-up, so copying files while it is running may not make them appear immediately.
Operating systemCommon Aerofly FS 4 user directory
Windows%USERPROFILE%\Documents\Aerofly FS 4\
macOS~/Library/Application Support/Aerofly FS 4/
Linux~/.config/Aerofly FS 4/

Typical destinations include Aerofly FS 4/aircraft/ for aircraft-related content and Aerofly FS 4/scenery/ for scenery. Follow the package’s readme when it specifies a more detailed layout, because scenery may be divided into several subdirectories.

A mistake we see constantly is installing community content under the store-managed programme directory. That location can be replaced during updates or file verification. Keep manually downloaded content in the user directory unless the add-on’s author gives a specific, credible reason to do otherwise.

Why is my Aerofly FS 4 add-on not showing?

Missing add-ons are usually caused by an incorrect folder level, an unextracted archive or a package made for another Aerofly version.

  • Check for a doubled folder. A path such as aircraft/addon-name/addon-name/ often means the archive’s outer wrapper was copied as well as the actual aircraft folder.
  • Look inside the installed folder. It should contain the add-on’s configuration and model files, not another ZIP or an unrelated parent directory.
  • Re-read the package instructions. Some liveries require the matching base aircraft, while scenery may rely on several folders supplied in the same download.
  • Verify FS 4 compatibility. Do not assume an Aerofly FS 2 aircraft, repaint or scenery package will load unchanged.
  • Respect capitalisation on Linux. A folder name with the wrong letter case can prevent a referenced file from loading.
  • Check the correct place. Scenery does not normally appear as an aircraft-style menu item; move the map to the location covered by the package.
  • Check official DLC status separately. If store-managed content is absent, confirm that it is enabled, fully downloaded and installed on a drive that is available.

Can Aerofly FS 2 or Aerofly FS Global add-ons be used?

Aerofly FS 2 add-ons are not guaranteed to work in Aerofly FS 4, even when their folder structures look similar. Aircraft definitions, scenery formats and dependencies can change, so use an older package only when its author explicitly confirms FS 4 compatibility or provides an updated release.

Aerofly FS Global is a separate mobile-focused product with different platform restrictions and content handling. Our explanation of add-on support in Aerofly FS Global covers that version specifically; manually copying desktop FS 4 packages into the mobile app is not a supported shortcut.

Where can you download Aerofly FS 4 add-ons?

Official packages come from the store attached to your Aerofly FS 4 installation. For community downloads, use files that clearly identify FS 4 compatibility, include installation instructions and state any required base aircraft or scenery.

The third-party catalogue is smaller than that of some competing desktop simulators. If add-on availability affects your choice of simulator, our comparison of Aerofly FS 4 and Microsoft Flight Simulator ecosystems explains the practical difference without assuming that a larger catalogue is always the better choice.
