Fix pushback not working in MSFS 2024 by checking tug-capable stands, brakes, chocks, control bindings, scenery conflicts and aircraft EFBs.
Pushback usually fails in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 because the aircraft is not on a pushback-enabled stand, the parking brake or chocks remain set, a brake axis is sending input, or two pushback systems conflict. Start at a proper gate, use one request method, and release the restraints only after the tug connects.
How do I fix MSFS 2024 pushback?
Work through these checks in order to separate an airport problem from an aircraft, controller or add-on fault.
- Start from a compatible parking stand. Use a marked gate or ramp position large enough for the aircraft. Runway starts, small-aircraft parking, remote locations and some custom spawn points may have no tug or usable vehicle path.
- Choose one pushback system. Request either the simulator's built-in ground service, the aircraft's EFB system or a third-party pushback tool. Do not start two of them together. If the controls are unfamiliar, follow our standard MSFS pushback sequence and steering procedure.
- Prepare the aircraft in the correct order. Begin with the parking brake set while the tug connects. Remove wheel chocks and any ground equipment that the aircraft treats as blocking items. Release the parking brake only when the tug or aircraft system tells you to do so.
- Check for unwanted brake input. Centred pedals can still send partial braking because of an inverted axis, jitter or insufficient dead zone. Move both toe brakes fully and release them, then inspect their input in the control settings. Do not use engine thrust to force the aircraft against the tug.
- Inspect the active control profile. Search the control assignments for
pushback,parking brakeandbrakes. Remove duplicate commands and make sure the assignments belong to the controller profile that is actually loaded. A remembered shortcut from MSFS 2020 or another profile may not be assigned in MSFS 2024. - Cancel and reset a stuck service. Cancel the request before trying another provider. If the tug remains frozen or invisible, return to the main menu and respawn at a different gate rather than repeatedly issuing the same command.
What does the pushback symptom mean?

Why does pushback fail at only one airport or gate?
A failure confined to one airport or parking position usually comes from faulty stand metadata, missing vehicle paths or overlapping scenery packages. Small ramps may also be designed without pushback because aircraft are expected to taxi out under their own power.
Test the same aircraft at another gate, then at a major airport supplied with the simulator. If pushback works there, the aircraft and bindings are probably sound. On PC, temporarily remove the suspect airport from the Community folder; on Xbox or PlayStation, disable its installed package. Also make sure two versions of the same airport are not active together.
Why does the tug connect but the aircraft remain stuck?
A connected tug that cannot move the aircraft is almost always fighting a restraint or brake input. Chocks can remain active even when the parking-brake lever appears released, especially in aircraft that manage ground equipment through an EFB or cockpit menu.
Hardware is the other common culprit. An inverted toe-brake axis can apply full braking when the pedals are untouched, while a noisy button may repeatedly set the parking brake. Does the aircraft need its own pushback system?
Some detailed aircraft work best through their own EFB, FMC or ground-services interface rather than the generic MSFS command. Their logic may block movement until chocks, external power equipment or other aircraft-specific items have been removed.
PMDG aircraft need particular care because mixing their ground configuration with another pushback provider can produce a connected but immobile tug; use our PMDG-specific pushback checks for that case. When should I reset add-ons or repair MSFS 2024?
Only suspect the simulator installation when pushback fails with a default aircraft at several stock airports after a clean restart. First create a temporary control profile, disable pushback and airport add-ons, and test again at a normal gate.
On PC, testing with an empty Community folder is more useful than reinstalling immediately. On consoles, disable recently added aircraft, utility and airport packages through the installed-content interface. Use the platform's repair or file-verification facility where available only after the clean test also fails; a full reinstall should be the last step.
