Learn how A380X fuel jettison works in MSFS, calculate the stop quantity, use the controls and fix a fuel dump that will not start.
In Microsoft Flight Simulator, FlyByWire A380X fuel jettison is controlled from the overhead JETTISON control when that function is modelled by your installed build. Start it, confirm total fuel on board is falling, and stop at the calculated target. If the cockpit control does nothing, bind MSFS’s Toggle Fuel Dump command as a simulator-level fallback.
A380X builds do not all reproduce the complete real-aircraft jettison logic. A clickable or illuminated pushbutton does not prove that fuel is flowing, so use the displayed fuel on board (FOB) as the deciding indication.
How do I jettison fuel in the A380X?
Use the cockpit control first, but judge success by the fuel quantity rather than a button animation or visible trail.
- Calculate the stop quantity. Decide how much fuel must remain for the approach, landing, reserve and any diversion requirement. Include the fuel that will be burned between ending the dump and touching down.
- Check the weight figures. Predicted landing weight is approximately ZFW plus predicted landing fuel when payload remains unchanged. If that calculation looks wrong, check how A380X zero-fuel weight is calculated and entered before dumping anything.
- Prepare the aircraft. Establish stable flight in a suitable area and avoid changing tanks, pumps or the EFB fuel quantity at the same time. In real operations, fuel jettison requires the aircraft checklist and coordination with air traffic control.
- Start the dump. On the overhead fuel panel, open the guard if represented and select the JETTISON control to START or ON. The exact interaction and annunciation can differ between A380X builds.
- Verify actual fuel flow. Display the fuel-system page and watch total FOB. It should decrease distinctly faster than ordinary engine consumption. A missing external spray effect does not necessarily mean the dump has failed.
- Stop at the target. Deselect the cockpit jettison control. If using the simulator command, operate
Toggle Fuel Dumponce more. Confirm that the rapid decrease stops; normal engine burn will continue.
Do not rely on an automatic cut-off at maximum landing weight unless your build clearly displays and executes one. The safest simulation technique is to monitor FOB and stop the process yourself.
How much fuel should I dump before landing?
Dump only enough to meet the planned landing-weight target while retaining the fuel required at touchdown.
Use these relationships:

A mistake we see constantly is stopping at the desired touchdown fuel while still some distance from the airport. The engines then consume part of the reserve during the approach. Stop with that remaining burn added to the touchdown target.
If you imported a dispatch plan, compare the aircraft’s actual quantities with the planned A380X fuel figures from SimBrief. Use actual FOB for the dump calculation, not the original block-fuel figure.
Fuel jettison cannot reduce ZFW because it removes fuel, not passengers or cargo. If ZFW itself makes the intended landing weight impossible, dumping more fuel will not solve the underlying weight problem. An emergency may also justify an overweight landing rather than delaying to dump fuel; that is an operational decision, not simply a fuel-system setting.
Why is A380X fuel jettison not working?
The usual causes are incomplete aircraft-system modelling, an inactive control binding or mistaking ordinary engine burn for jettison flow.

Can I remove fuel through the EFB instead?
The EFB refuelling page and the MSFS fuel menu change the aircraft’s fuel state; they are not realistic airborne jettison controls.
They can serve as a last-resort simulation workaround when neither the cockpit function nor the generic command is supported. Pause if necessary, calculate the replacement quantity first and make one controlled adjustment. Instant fuel removal can bypass tank-transfer logic and leave custom displays out of sync, so verify total FOB, individual tank quantities and gross weight before continuing.
