Install MSFS 2024 add-ons on Xbox through Marketplace and My Library, with fixes for missing, queued, disabled or incompatible content.
On Xbox Series X|S, install Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 add-ons through the in-simulator Marketplace: acquire the item, open My Library, then download, enable or stream it as offered. Xbox cannot use ZIP files, a PC Community folder or USB-installed mods; the add-on must be published for Xbox and compatible with MSFS 2024.
How to install an add-on from the MSFS 2024 Marketplace
- Launch Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 while signed into the Xbox profile that will own and use the add-on. An internet connection is required to access Marketplace entitlements and streamed content.
- Open Marketplace from the simulator's main interface and find the aircraft, airport, scenery, livery or other product you want.
- Check its compatibility before acquiring it. The listing must support Xbox and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024; a product intended only for PC or MSFS 2020 is not enough.
- Buy or claim the item. Free products still need to be acquired so that they are attached to your account.
- Open My Library and locate the product under your owned content. Clear any filters if it does not appear immediately.
- Select the available content action. Depending on the package and simulator interface, this may be labelled Install, Download or Enable. Some MSFS 2024 content is streamed rather than stored as a conventional local package, so an owned and enabled item may not present a large download.
- Allow the process to finish, then return to the relevant aircraft or location. If the add-on remains absent, close the simulator fully and relaunch it rather than relying on Xbox Quick Resume.
Marketplace wording can change between simulator updates, but the account-to-Marketplace-to-My Library sequence remains the key process.
Where does an installed Xbox add-on appear?
The installation location depends on the content type; Xbox does not expose an add-on folder for you to browse.
- Aircraft: look in the aircraft selection screen. Confirm that filters are not hiding the aircraft class or content source.
- Liveries: select the associated aircraft first, then inspect its available variants or liveries. A livery is not a separate flyable aircraft; our platform-specific livery installation guidance explains this distinction.
- Airports and scenery: load a flight at the affected location. Scenery usually replaces or augments the location automatically rather than appearing as a separate menu item.
- Utilities and effects: check the product description for any toolbar panel, aircraft dependency or activation requirement.
Why is my MSFS 2024 add-on not showing on Xbox?
A missing add-on is usually caused by the wrong account, an active library filter, incomplete entitlement synchronisation or incompatible content.
- Confirm the Xbox profile. Use the same Microsoft/Xbox account that acquired the product. Ownership does not automatically transfer between unrelated profiles.
- Check My Library without filters. Search for the product and inspect its owned, enabled or installation state.
- Verify Xbox and MSFS 2024 support. A Marketplace listing can exist for another platform or simulator generation without being usable in your configuration.
- Restart without Quick Resume. Quit the simulator from the Xbox dashboard and reopen it so licences and library contents are refreshed.
- Install simulator updates. Content built for a newer simulator update may not load correctly until the main application is updated.
- Check free storage. Locally installed packages still need space even though MSFS 2024 streams much of its world data. Do not clear Xbox reserved space as an early troubleshooting step because that can force content to be downloaded again.
- Test without recently enabled products. If crashes began after adding content, disable the newest package and relaunch normally. Starting in Safe Mode can leave third-party content disabled.
If a download stays queued, cancel and retry it after restarting the simulator and checking the Xbox network connection. Do not purchase the same item again until My Library and the active account have been checked.
Can I install downloaded ZIP mods on Xbox?
No. Xbox cannot extract downloaded packages into the PC Community folder, install them from USB storage or run external installers. Our detailed explanation of Xbox mod and Community-folder restrictions covers why PC installation instructions do not work on the console.
Xbox users are not limited to paid products: compatible no-cost packages can be claimed through Marketplace. See our guidance on finding free MSFS 2024 add-ons for Xbox rather than attempting to install ordinary PC freeware.
Do MSFS 2020 Marketplace add-ons work in MSFS 2024?
Some MSFS 2020 Marketplace purchases carry into MSFS 2024, but compatibility is decided per product and publisher. A compatible entitlement may appear automatically in My Library; other products require an updated package, a separate upgrade or remain unavailable on Xbox.
Check My Library and the MSFS 2024 Marketplace listing before buying anything again. Ownership of the older product does not by itself guarantee that its aircraft systems, scenery or supporting code will run in MSFS 2024.
