Which ATC add-ons work with MSFS 2024 on Xbox?

Adam McEnroe
In short

Learn which MSFS 2024 Xbox ATC add-ons work, why BeyondATC and VATSIM do not, and the practical console alternatives to built-in ATC.

MSFS 2024 on Xbox does not support the main third-party ATC replacements. BeyondATC, SayIntentions.AI, FSHud, Pilot2ATC, VATSIM and IVAO require Windows companion software or console connections that Xbox does not provide. Xbox pilots must use Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024’s built-in ATC unless an Xbox-compatible product is released through the in-sim Marketplace.

Which MSFS 2024 Xbox ATC options actually work?

On Xbox Series X|S, native ATC is the only complete ATC system integrated with the aircraft, flight plan and simulator traffic. Marketplace content can work only when its product listing explicitly includes Xbox compatibility.

ATC optionWorks directly on Xbox? What to expect
MSFS 2024 built-in ATCYesIntegrated clearances, frequency changes and menu-based responses
BeyondATC, SayIntentions.AI, FSHud or Pilot2ATCNoThese depend on Windows applications and simulator connections unavailable on Xbox
VATSIM or IVAONoThe console cannot run the required pilot client
Marketplace ATC or radio contentOnly if labelled for XboxCheck whether it provides genuine ATC interaction or merely recorded radio chatter

A product advertised for MSFS 2024 is not automatically compatible with the Xbox edition. Platform support must be stated explicitly, and even an Xbox-compatible radio utility may provide ambience rather than issue clearances or control simulator traffic.

Why don't PC ATC add-ons work on Xbox?

Most advanced ATC products run as separate Windows applications. They exchange aircraft position, radio, transponder and flight-plan data with the simulator through a local connector, then process speech or online services outside MSFS.

Xbox cannot install those executables, expose a user-accessible Community folder or run the required PC connector. Opening a service on a laptop or through the Xbox browser does not create that missing simulator link. Our explanation of the restrictions on installing Microsoft Flight Simulator mods on Xbox covers the same platform boundary.

A common mistake is assuming that connecting a headset enables an AI voice ATC product. A headset handles audio and multiplayer communication, but it does not install speech-recognition software or turn the native ATC menu into voice control.

Can you use VATSIM or IVAO with MSFS 2024 on Xbox?

VATSIM and IVAO cannot be used as a connected pilot from the Xbox console alone. They are live-controller networks rather than self-contained ATC add-ons, and both require a compatible pilot client that receives aircraft data from the simulator.

Running voice chat on another device is not sufficient: the network also needs your position, altitude, callsign, transponder state and radio frequencies. For a broader comparison of native and network ATC, see our guide to using ATC and understanding live-controller limitations in MSFS 2024.

What is the best ATC setup for an Xbox pilot?

The practical choice is MSFS 2024’s built-in ATC, supported by a properly prepared flight plan and correctly configured radios. It is less flexible than the leading PC replacements, but it can follow IFR clearances, handoffs and frequency changes without external software.

  • Prepare the route before departure: enter the origin, destination, runway and procedure information available for the flight.
  • Check the aircraft radios: ensure the avionics are powered, the correct COM frequency is active and its audio is selected.
  • Use the ATC panel: select the available responses with a controller, mouse or keyboard. A keyboard makes frequency entry easier but does not add voice recognition.
  • Enable radio assistance if required: the simulator can handle some communications automatically, though this reduces direct control over when calls are made.

If ATC options disappear or the controller goes silent, check the active frequency and electrical state before restarting the flight. Missed handoffs and a radio left on the standby frequency are common causes.

How can you avoid buying an incompatible ATC add-on?

  1. Confirm Xbox support: do not rely solely on an MSFS 2024 compatibility claim.
  2. Read the installation requirements: references to a Windows application, external connector, manual file installation or Community folder mean it will not run on Xbox.
  3. Check what the product actually does: radio chatter, ATC phrase training and airport ambience are not replacements for interactive air traffic control.

If realistic voice recognition or live-controller networks are essential, the PC edition is required. Our comparison of the main MSFS 2024 ATC systems explains the PC choices and their different requirements.
