How do I install MSFS 2024 Marketplace add-ons on Xbox?
On Xbox Series X|S, install Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 add-ons through the in-sim Marketplace: sign in with the purchasing Microsoft/Xbox account, buy or claim the item, then open My Library and install or enable it if that option appears. Aircraft appear in the aircraft selector; airports and scenery load automatically at their mapped locations.
How to install Marketplace add-ons on Xbox
The safe sequence is to verify compatibility before purchase, complete the transaction in the simulator, and manage the resulting entitlement through My Library.
- Use the correct account. Start MSFS 2024 with the same Xbox profile and Microsoft account that will own the add-on. Marketplace entitlements may not appear for another family member simply because the console is set as a home Xbox.
- Open Marketplace. Find the aircraft, airport, livery or scenery package and read its compatibility and dependency information. Confirm that it supports MSFS 2024 and Xbox; a livery may also require a separately owned aircraft or simulator edition.
- Buy or claim the product. Complete the Xbox checkout and allow the simulator to return to the product page. If confirmation is delayed, check the library and transaction status before trying to buy it again.
- Open My Library. Show all owned content and select the new product. If a local download or installation option is offered, use it and let the queue finish. If the item is shown as owned and enabled without a download button, it may be delivered by MSFS 2024's content-streaming system instead.
- Restart the simulator if necessary. Fully quit MSFS 2024 from the Xbox guide rather than leaving it in Quick Resume, then launch it again. This refreshes account entitlements and newly installed packages.
Marketplace packages are managed inside the simulator and usually do not appear as individual products under Xbox's Manage game and add-ons screen. Our breakdown of Marketplace purchasing, licensing and updates explains the practical trade-offs of using the in-sim store.
Where do installed aircraft and scenery appear?
Most Marketplace products do not create a separate main-menu tile; they appear where that type of content is normally used.
| Content type | Where to access it |
|---|---|
| Aircraft or helicopter | Open Free Flight and use the aircraft selector. Search by manufacturer or model if the list is long. |
| Aircraft livery | Select the required parent aircraft, then choose the livery or variant. A livery does not appear as a separate aircraft. |
| Airport | Search the world map by airport name or ICAO code. The add-on version loads when you start a flight there. |
| Regional or city scenery | Fly to the covered location. Scenery normally loads automatically and has no launch button. |
| Activity or specialised feature | Use the menu or panel identified in the Marketplace description. Availability in Free Flight does not guarantee that the same content can be used in Career mode. |
Why is my Marketplace add-on missing?
A missing Xbox add-on is usually caused by an account mismatch, an active library filter, an unfinished download, a dependency or stale Quick Resume data.
- Quit and relaunch MSFS 2024. Highlight the simulator in the Xbox guide, choose Quit, and reopen it. Quick Resume can preserve an expired Marketplace session.
- Check My Library without filters. Display all owned products rather than only installed, updated or ready-to-download items. Confirm that the purchase completed before paying again.
- Verify the Xbox profile. The gamertag running the simulator must have access to the purchasing account's entitlement. Child-account purchasing restrictions can also prevent checkout.
- Check compatibility and dependencies. An Xbox-incompatible package, an unavailable MSFS 2020 product or a livery requiring an aircraft you do not own will not work merely because it is visible in the catalogue.
- Finish updates and downloads. Allow the simulator and package queues to complete, and make sure the console has enough free storage when a local installation is required.
- Check online services. Marketplace licensing and streamed content require a working connection with Online Functionality and simulator data services enabled. If the Marketplace itself will not load, the problem is broader than one add-on.
Do not clear the simulator's Xbox reserved space as an early troubleshooting step. It can remove locally stored simulator data and trigger a substantial download; use it only after account, entitlement, update and connection checks have failed.
Do MSFS 2020 Marketplace purchases transfer to MSFS 2024?
Compatible MSFS 2020 Marketplace purchases can appear in MSFS 2024 when both simulators use the same Microsoft/Xbox account, but transfer is not universal. The product must have an MSFS 2024-compatible version and support Xbox; PC products bought outside the in-sim Marketplace do not become Xbox entitlements. Use our compatibility checks for older MSFS add-ons before assuming a missing purchase needs to be bought again.
Can I install non-Marketplace add-ons manually on Xbox?
No. Xbox does not provide access to the MSFS Community folder, so ZIP archives, drag-and-drop packages and USB installations intended for PC cannot be installed. Marketplace delivery is the supported Xbox route; our comparison of Marketplace and Community-folder aircraft installation shows how the Xbox and PC methods differ.
