Why is my purchased Marketplace content missing in MSFS?

Adam McEnroe
In short

Find missing MSFS Marketplace purchases by checking the correct account, platform, simulator version, library filters and installation status.

Previously purchased Marketplace content is usually missing in Microsoft Flight Simulator because the simulator is signed into a different Microsoft/Xbox account, the item is filtered or disabled in the content library, it is incompatible with that simulator version or platform, or its entitlement has not synchronised. The purchase is not stored in the Community folder.

How do I restore missing MSFS Marketplace purchases?

Check the account and ownership record before reinstalling anything; most missing-content cases are entitlement or library problems rather than deleted files.

  1. Confirm every account. Sign into the Microsoft Store, Xbox app and Microsoft Flight Simulator with the identities used when the item was purchased. Steam and PlayStation users should also confirm the correct platform account. Marketplace purchases normally do not pass to another gamertag, family member or child account.
  2. Check the simulator and platform. Verify whether you bought the product for MSFS 2020 or MSFS 2024 and on which storefront. Moving between Steam, the Microsoft Store/Xbox ecosystem and PlayStation can affect entitlement availability.
  3. Clear library filters. Open Content Manager in MSFS 2020 or My Library in MSFS 2024, remove search terms and filters, then search by the product and publisher names. Look under owned, available, not installed, disabled and update categories where those options appear.
  4. Force an entitlement refresh. Close the simulator completely, restart the platform client or console, confirm that online functionality is enabled, and launch MSFS again. If the entire Marketplace is unavailable or greyed out in MSFS 2020, use our steps for diagnosing an unavailable Marketplace and failed online connection.
  5. Install or enable the product. Ownership does not always mean the files are installed locally. MSFS 2020 packages may require a Content Manager download, while MSFS 2024 can stream supported content or keep it disabled in the library. Xbox users can follow our process for installing owned MSFS 2024 Marketplace add-ons on Xbox.
  6. Install simulator and content updates. An add-on can remain unavailable when the base simulator, a required dependency or the product itself is waiting for an update. Restart MSFS after installing large aircraft or scenery packages.

Do not buy the product again while investigating. A second transaction can complicate the ownership record without repairing the original entitlement.

Do Marketplace purchases transfer between MSFS versions and platforms?

Transfer depends on the simulator version, storefront, account and add-on compatibility; “owned on one device” does not guarantee universal ownership.

Move or changeWhat to expect
MSFS 2020 to MSFS 2024Compatible Marketplace purchases should generally appear under the same account and platform, but a publisher may need to approve or update an add-on for MSFS 2024.
Microsoft Store PC to XboxUse the same Xbox account. Only products licensed and compatible for the destination platform can appear; PC-only add-ons will not become Xbox products.
Steam to Microsoft Store or XboxTreat these as separate storefronts and do not assume purchases will transfer, even when the same Microsoft identity is used inside MSFS.
PC or Xbox to PlayStation 5Do not assume cross-buy between platform ecosystems. MSFS 2020 was never released on PlayStation; MSFS 2024 purchases on PS5 are also subject to PlayStation licensing.
New PC using the same storefrontOwned content should return after account synchronisation, but it may need downloading or enabling again.
Add-on bought outside the MarketplaceIt will not appear in the Marketplace library. Reinstall it using the original installer or package supplied with the purchase.

Where should purchased Marketplace add-ons appear?

MSFS 2020 manages Marketplace products through Content Manager, while MSFS 2024 lists owned content in its library and may stream supported packages instead of keeping every file installed locally.

A mistake we see constantly is checking Community for a Marketplace aircraft or airport. Marketplace packages are simulator-managed, normally using the official package area or the MSFS 2024 streaming system. Our explanation of why an empty Community folder does not mean add-ons are missing shows the distinction.

Some products are also sold as bundles. The library may display the bundle or parent package rather than every aircraft variant, livery or airport as a separate purchase. Search both the product name and publisher before deciding that the entitlement is absent.

Why does an add-on say owned but not appear in the simulator?

An “Owned” label confirms the entitlement, but the add-on can still be uninstalled, disabled, outdated or incompatible with the selected simulator version.

  • Check for a separate download, enable or update control in the content library.
  • Confirm that a livery supports the exact aircraft model or edition you selected.
  • Look for required dependency packages included with an aircraft, airport or bundle.
  • Remove or disable an older duplicate from Community; duplicate package names can prevent the intended version from loading correctly.
  • Restart the simulator after installation rather than loading the same flight immediately.
  • If MSFS reports that the package is incompatible, wait for a compatible publisher release rather than moving files manually.

Clearing rolling cache does not restore Marketplace ownership. It can help with streamed world data in other circumstances, but it does not recreate an account entitlement.

What should I do if the purchase is still missing?

If the correct account, storefront and simulator show no ownership after a full restart, collect the transaction details and report an entitlement problem rather than reinstalling the entire simulator.

Record the product name, purchasing account or gamertag, platform, simulator version, approximate purchase date and transaction reference. Screenshots showing the signed-in account and the missing library entry are also useful. If payment failed, was refunded or remains pending, the content will not be granted until the transaction is complete.

Deleting the Official packages, resetting the simulator or performing a full reinstall should be the last resort. Those actions can replace local files, but they cannot repair a purchase attached to the wrong account or storefront.
