Can you use PMDG aircraft on Xbox in MSFS?

In short

Selected PMDG aircraft work on Xbox. Learn how to check MSFS 2020/2024 compatibility, install them, and avoid PC purchase and livery problems.

Yes. You can use selected PMDG aircraft on Xbox Series X|S in Microsoft Flight Simulator, but only when that exact aircraft is available through the in-simulator Marketplace and marked as Xbox compatible. PC-only purchases, installers and Community-folder packages cannot be transferred to or installed on an Xbox.

Which PMDG aircraft work on Xbox?

Only PMDG products explicitly approved for Xbox and the version of Microsoft Flight Simulator you are running will work. Examples released for Xbox through the Marketplace include variants from the 737 range, the DC-6 and members of the 777 range, although availability can differ by simulator version and package.

Do not assume that one supported aircraft makes every PMDG product compatible. A base aircraft, expansion and livery pack can each have different platform support, while an Xbox release may arrive later than its PC counterpart.

MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024 are also separate compatibility targets. An Xbox aircraft made for MSFS 2020 is not automatically a native MSFS 2024 product, and PC support does not guarantee Xbox support. Check our model-by-model PMDG compatibility notes for MSFS 2024 before buying or transferring content.

How do you install a PMDG aircraft on Xbox?

Xbox users must obtain PMDG aircraft through the simulator's Marketplace; there is no accessible Community folder and no support for Windows installers. Our explanation of Xbox's Marketplace-only add-on system covers the wider restriction.

  1. Open the correct simulator: start MSFS 2020 or MSFS 2024 using the Microsoft/Xbox account that will own the aircraft.
  2. Search the Marketplace: search for PMDG, then open the exact aircraft or expansion you want.
  3. Check compatibility: confirm Xbox support, the required simulator version and whether the product needs another PMDG base aircraft.
  4. Acquire and enable it: purchase the product, then download or enable it through the Marketplace library or content manager as offered by that simulator.
  5. Finish all updates: allow the aircraft and simulator packages to complete, restart the simulator, then look for the correct variant in the aircraft selector.

If you also run MSFS on Windows, our comparison of PC and Xbox aircraft installation methods explains why the two routes are not interchangeable.

An Xbox controller can operate the main flight controls and cockpit cursor, but a keyboard and mouse are much more practical for CDU entries and overhead-panel work. Check bindings for the parking brake, spoilers, flaps and reverse thrust before your first flight.

Can a PC PMDG purchase transfer to Xbox?

A PMDG purchase transfers between PC and Xbox only when it was bought through the in-simulator Marketplace under the same Microsoft/Xbox account and that specific listing supports both platforms. A PMDG aircraft bought directly for Windows does not create an Xbox Marketplace entitlement.

  • Marketplace purchase: may be available on both platforms when the product supports PC and Xbox.
  • Direct PC purchase: cannot be installed on Xbox or imported into its Marketplace library.
  • PC liveries: cannot be copied to Xbox; use an Xbox-compatible Marketplace livery package.
  • MSFS 2020 ownership: does not by itself guarantee that the aircraft is supported or enabled in MSFS 2024.

Xbox updates also come through the Marketplace. The PMDG Operations Center and manual hotfix installers are Windows tools, so instructions telling you to run them or copy files into Community apply only to PC.

Why is a PMDG aircraft missing on Xbox?

A missing PMDG aircraft usually indicates a platform, account, version or installation mismatch rather than a problem with the aircraft selector itself.
