How do I unlock companies and earn passive income in MSFS 2024?
Unlock MSFS 2024 Career Mode companies, buy the right aircraft and enable crews for passive income—plus fixes when no earnings appear.
To unlock companies in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 Career Mode, progress as an employee, earn the required licence and specialisation, complete its introductory mission, then save enough credits for the company and a compatible aircraft. Passive income starts only after you own spare aircraft and enable crews; company ownership alone earns nothing.
Unlocking a Career Mode company
Each business type becomes available only after you satisfy the level, certification, specialisation and mission requirements displayed on its company card. Unlocking a mission type does not automatically create the corresponding company.
- Build Career progress: complete employee missions to raise your level and reputation. Our explanation of the employee-to-company progression in Career Mode covers how these systems fit together.
- Earn the required certifications: obtain the licence and aircraft rating needed for that type of work.
- Unlock its specialisation: meet the listed prerequisites and complete the introductory or special mission when one is required.
- Save the complete start-up cost: you need enough for both the company fee and an eligible aircraft. Keep additional credits for insurance, fuel and repairs rather than spending your entire balance.
- Create the company: open the Companies area at Career headquarters, choose an available business type and purchase a compatible aircraft.
There is no single cash target that fits every company because business fees, eligible aircraft and aircraft condition differ. The company card and aircraft marketplace show the applicable requirements. If funds are the remaining obstacle, use these methods for building Career credits efficiently before buying.
The discounted first-aircraft offer is a major advantage and should not be treated as a normal market price. A mistake we see constantly is selling that aircraft too early, then discovering that its replacement costs far more. A cheap aircraft in poor condition can also consume the saving through repairs.
Which company should I unlock first?
Start the company whose cheapest eligible aircraft you can purchase while retaining a sensible repair reserve, rather than choosing solely by the advertised mission payout. A simpler aircraft with plentiful missions and low operating costs is usually safer than an expensive type that leaves the business one major repair from insolvency.
Before committing, check the licence, rating and ownership gates for Career aircraft. A company is of little use if its missions require an aircraft you cannot yet operate or afford.
How do you enable passive income in MSFS 2024?
Passive income becomes available when a company-owned aircraft is left available for an AI crew instead of being used for your active mission. You do not hire named pilots or assign routes manually.
- Open the company fleet: enter the Companies area and select the aircraft or fleet-management screen.
- Choose an unused aircraft: it must belong to the company, be serviceable and not be committed to the mission you intend to fly.
- Enable Crew: switch the aircraft's Crew setting to on or available. The precise label can vary slightly with interface revisions.
- Continue flying Career missions: use another company aircraft or fly employee work while the crewed aircraft remains available.
- Check the financial report: crew income is posted through Career Mode's accounting system rather than added continuously to the balance.
| Fleet situation | Passive-income result |
|---|---|
| Employee or rented aircraft | No income; the aircraft is not owned by your company. |
| Company aircraft with Crew off | No passive income. |
| One company aircraft with Crew on while you fly employee missions | The company aircraft can be available for crewed work. |
| Two company aircraft, one flown and one crewed | The spare aircraft can earn while you operate the other one. |
| Aircraft grounded for maintenance or otherwise unavailable | Do not expect crew revenue until it is serviceable and available. |
You do not necessarily need two company aircraft if you are willing to fly employee missions while your sole company aircraft is crewed. You do need a spare if you want to fly your own freelance company missions and leave another aircraft generating passive revenue.
Does MSFS 2024 passive income work while offline?
Passive income can be posted after time away, but it is not a simple fixed payment for every hour that Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 remains closed. Crewed earnings are processed through periodic Career accounting and depend on eligible activity and aircraft availability, so merely closing the simulator does not create unlimited income.
Do not expect the balance to change immediately after enabling Crew. Leave the aircraft available, continue completing Career missions and judge the result from the subsequent financial report. Active company missions remain the main source of controllable revenue; crewed operations supplement them.
Why am I not receiving passive income?
Most missing passive income is caused by an ineligible aircraft, the Crew switch being off or checking before an accounting report has been processed.
- Recheck Crew after using the aircraft: selecting that aeroplane for your own mission can remove it from crew availability.
- Confirm ownership: aircraft supplied for employee missions cannot generate revenue for your company.
- Check aircraft condition: unresolved maintenance or airworthiness problems can prevent it from being available.
- Allow for settlement: the balance is not a live earnings counter; inspect the company financial report after the next processing period.
- Compare net rather than gross income: crew, operating and maintenance costs reduce what reaches the company balance.
- Return to Career headquarters: reports and balances may not refresh while you remain inside another menu or mission.
A larger fleet is not automatically more profitable. Add an aircraft only when expected crew income comfortably covers its purchase, insurance, upkeep and repair exposure; one healthy spare is better than several damaged bargains that spend most of their time grounded.
