Unlock companies in MSFS 2024 Career Mode: required licences, specialisations, missions, credits and fixes when a company remains locked.
To unlock companies in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 Career Mode, obtain the Commercial Pilot Licence, unlock the specialisation for the work you want, and complete every prerequisite shown on that company’s tile—usually its introductory employee mission. Then earn enough credits for both the company fee and a compatible aircraft; companies unlock separately.
How does the company unlock system work?
There is no single milestone that unlocks every MSFS 2024 company at once. Each business type has its own combination of qualifications, specialisations, completed missions and startup capital.
- Qualifications: Early freelance operations require the Commercial Pilot Licence, while advanced work may also need instrument, multi-engine, turbine, rotorcraft or other relevant ratings.
- Specialisation: You must unlock the activity associated with the company, such as flightseeing or light cargo.
- Mission progression: Complete the introductory gold mission and any employee-mission requirement displayed for that activity.
- Startup capital: Your balance must cover the company purchase and an eligible aircraft. Remaining cash is also needed for fuel, maintenance and repairs.

Steps to unlock and start a company
- Complete the opening Career missions. Earn the Private Pilot Licence and then the Commercial Pilot Licence rather than spending all your early credits on optional ratings.
- Choose the work you actually want. Inspect the locked company or specialisation tile and note every listed prerequisite. Requirements differ between flightseeing, cargo, charter, agricultural and other operations.
- Unlock the matching specialisation. Buy only the certifications and ratings requested for that activity.
- Fly the required employee missions. Complete the gold introductory mission and any mission count or performance requirement shown on the tile. Let the debrief finish so the result is recorded.
- Build sufficient capital. Continue flying as an employee until you can afford the company, its first compatible aircraft and a sensible operating reserve.
- Create the company. Return to the Companies area, select the unlocked business type and review the aircraft offered before confirming the purchase.
The common mistake we see is buying several certifications immediately, then discovering there are too few credits left for the aircraft. Check how ratings, specialisations and company aircraft access interact before spending heavily.
Why is my company still locked?
A company usually remains locked because one prerequisite has not been recorded, even though the pilot already holds the main licence.
Why did the Commercial Pilot Licence not unlock it?
The CPL is only one gate. Reopen the relevant specialisation and company tiles, then look for a missing rating, reputation condition, employee-mission count or introductory mission. Advanced companies often depend on several earlier activities rather than one certificate.
Why can I see the company but not buy it?
An available company and an affordable company are not the same thing. The purchase workflow must be able to pair the business with an eligible aircraft, and your balance must cover both parts of the transaction.
Do not assume that an aircraft associated with one business will satisfy another company’s startup requirement. Compatibility depends on the activity, aircraft category and qualifications attached to your pilot.
What if completed requirements have not registered?
Allow the mission debrief and credit award to finish, return to Career headquarters, and reopen the relevant tiles. If the gold introductory mission is missing, check that employee missions and the required activity are visible on the mission map.

Which company should I unlock first?
Choose the first company according to its total startup cost, mission style and aircraft requirement—not simply because its business fee is lowest.
- Flightseeing suits shorter VFR work and is generally the straightforward early-company route.
- Light cargo suits pilots willing to fly longer point-to-point missions and build around transport work.
- Advanced operations are better left until their extra ratings, specialist aircraft and operating costs will not exhaust your balance.
Pay close attention to the initial discounted aircraft offer. Buying the cheapest available company merely to open freelance mode can waste that advantage if your intended operation needs a different aircraft, and selling an early aircraft may not reproduce the original deal.
