- Run the ChasePlane updater. Open ChasePlane and accept its update prompt, if one appears. Allow the application to close when requested and do not relaunch MSFS until installation finishes.
- Use the latest installer if necessary. If the updater finds nothing, repeatedly fails or reopens the old release, exit ChasePlane and run the latest installer supplied through your existing ChasePlane account or original download source. Select support for the correct simulator generation.
- Keep the existing installation initially. Install over it unless the release instructions explicitly require removal. Allow the installer to refresh the MSFS integration component if offered.
- Verify the result. Reopen ChasePlane, check the displayed version and selected simulator, then load a flight in MSFS. Test an existing camera preset as well as basic camera movement.

Do I need to uninstall ChasePlane before updating?
No—routine ChasePlane updates should normally be installed over the existing copy. Uninstalling first can complicate profile preservation, activation and simulator integration without fixing the underlying problem.
Use a clean reinstall only when an update or repair installation still fails, or when the release instructions specifically demand it. Export your cameras before removing anything, and do not delete ChasePlane settings folders as an initial troubleshooting step.

Why is ChasePlane not connecting after the update?
If ChasePlane stops connecting after an update, the usual causes are a stale background process, the wrong simulator integration, blocked files or an incomplete installation.
- Restart Windows. This clears locked files and any old ChasePlane process left behind by the updater.
- Confirm the simulator target. Check that ChasePlane is configured for the MSFS edition you actually launched.
- Load an aircraft before judging the connection. Some integration functions are not available while MSFS is still at its main menus.
- Keep privilege levels consistent. Run ChasePlane and MSFS normally. Elevate only the installer when Windows requests permission; avoid running one application permanently as administrator while the other runs normally.

Does updating ChasePlane also update Microsoft Flight Simulator?
No—ChasePlane and Microsoft Flight Simulator use separate update systems. ChasePlane is not updated through the simulator’s content-management screens, and updating it does not install an MSFS Sim Update.
