Barnes County Municipal has two RNAV (GPS) approaches, each serving a runway end. With eight ends across four runways, published instrument access is therefore limited to a quarter of the available runway ends. The runway choices also differ markedly: the sole concrete runway is the longest at 4,201 ft, while the three turf runways range from 2,520 to 3,539 ft. Changing alignment can consequently mean accepting both a different surface and considerably less length.
Jamestown Regional has a distinctly broader chart set, with 11 published charts against four at Barnes County. Cooperstown Municipal, Lisbon Municipal, Casselton Robert Miller Regional and Robert Odegaard Field each have slightly thinner three-chart sets. The Twin Cities Sectional supplies the broader visual context around Valley City that the airport-specific instrument procedures do not provide.
