Approaches and runway dimensions

Wright-Patterson’s two parallel runways are far from equivalent in length: 05L/23R provides 5,600 ft more than 05R/23L. That difference makes runway assignment materially relevant to the available take-off and landing distance. Instrument coverage extends to all four ends, rather than being concentrated on one runway or direction. The mix of ILS, RNAV (GPS) and localiser procedures also provides several forms of approach guidance.

Coverage around Dayton

KDAY has broader procedure-chart coverage, while KSGH is the closest nearby field in breadth. KMGY and KGDK have thinner sets, with I73 thinner still. The three overlapping sectional charts provide wider VFR context around the field, while the Cincinnati Terminal Area Chart adds more focused terminal-area coverage beyond the airport-specific instrument procedures.
