Concentrated instrument coverage

Hartford-Brainard’s published approaches are concentrated on a single runway end, with RNAV (GPS) and VOR procedures represented. The opposite end has no published approach, so the instrument chart set does not provide equivalent coverage in both directions. Runway 02/20, at 4,417 ft, is the clear length-dominant alignment: the paved 11/29 and turf NE/SW strips are each little more than half as long. The airport diagram also distinguishes the two helipads from the aeroplane runways.

Regional chart context

Among nearby fields, Bradley International has by far the broadest procedure set, while Robertson Field, Meriden Markham Municipal, Windham and Chester have appreciably thinner coverage. The New York Sectional supplies the wider visual-navigation context that the airport-specific terminal procedures do not show.

Common questions about KHFD

What charts are available for KHFD?

10 current FAA charts for Hartford-Brainard, including 4 instrument approachs, 1 departure procedure, 1 arrival procedure, 1 airport diagram. All are free to download as PDFs from this page, from the 6 August 2026 cycle.

What are the radio frequencies for KHFD?

Ground 121.6; ATIS 126.45; CTAF 119.6; UNICOM 122.95. Full civil VHF list, with sector notes, is in the frequencies table on this page — from the FAA NASR subscription.

How long is the runway at KHFD?

Hartford-Brainard has 5 runways. The longest is 02/20 at 4,417 ft by 150 ft, asphalt. Full runway dimensions, lighting and approach aids are listed on this page.

Does KHFD have an ILS approach?

No ILS is published. In total KHFD has 4 published instrument approaches, of which 1 are RNAV (GPS).

Where can I download the KHFD airport diagram?

The official FAA airport diagram for Hartford-Brainard is free to download at the top of this page. It shows runways, taxiways, ramp layout and hold-short positions, and is reissued every 28 days.

Which runway do instrument approaches serve at KHFD?

Every published approach serves one runway end. There is no instrument procedure to the reciprocal direction, so an arrival in instrument conditions commits to that single approach direction regardless of the wind.

Is KHFD a towered airport?

Yes. Hartford-Brainard has an operating control tower, within Boston Center's airspace. Tower, ground and clearance frequencies are listed on this page.

How many runways does KHFD have?

5, which is why the chart set is as large as it is — each runway end that supports an instrument approach needs its own plates. The runway diagram on this page shows the layout to scale.

Are these KHFD charts current?

They are from the FAA cycle effective 6 August 2026, which is superseded on 3 September 2026. We publish each new cycle on its effective date. They are for flight simulation and reference only — not for real-world navigation.
