Chester’s sole 2,722 ft runway has an RNAV (GPS) approach to each end, so instrument coverage is balanced between Runways 17 and 35 rather than concentrated on one arrival direction. With no second runway alignment and no other approach type published, the set is narrow: every instrument approach is GPS-based and uses the same strip. The runway length makes available take-off and landing distance a central consideration.
Nearby chart coverage varies markedly. Groton-New London has the broadest set at 12 charts, while Tweed/New Haven and Hartford-Brainard each have 10. Meriden Markham Municipal is closer to Chester’s limited coverage with four, and Elizabeth Field is thinner still with two. The New York Sectional adds wider VFR context not provided by the airport-specific terminal procedures.
