A single instrument arrival

Orange County has one RNAV (GPS) approach serving only one of its four runway ends. Instrument arrivals are therefore concentrated on a single direction, with no published approach to the opposite end or either end of the shorter 13/31 runway. The 5,500 ft asphalt 04/22 is substantially longer than the 3,000 ft turf crossing runway, making the two alignments distinctly different in the aircraft dimensions and surfaces they accommodate.

Chart coverage nearby

Jack Brooks Regional has the broadest nearby procedure set, with more than twice the chart coverage of any other listed field. Beaumont Municipal, Southland Field and De Quincy Industrial Airpark are closer to Orange County’s limited coverage, while Hawthorne Field is thinner still. The Houston Sectional supplies wider visual-navigation context, and the US Gulf Coast Helicopter Route Chart adds helicopter routing not represented by the instrument procedure set.
