Instrument procedure shape

Palm Springs International’s four approaches serve only two of its four runway ends, so instrument arrivals are concentrated on selected alignments rather than spread across both parallels. Three use RNAV (GPS), while the remaining procedure is VOR-based. The larger collection of seven departure procedures and five STARs gives the set more depth in routing to and from the field than in final-approach choice.

Runways and chart context

The parallel runways differ markedly in length: the 10,000 ft strip accommodates runway-length needs that the 4,953 ft parallel cannot. Among nearby fields, Jacqueline Cochran Regional and Bermuda Dunes have the closest breadth of published chart coverage; Hemet-Ryan, Big Bear City and Twentynine Palms have much thinner sets. For visual flying, two overlapping sectionals provide wider regional context, while the Los Angeles Terminal Area Chart adds a more focused VFR depiction.
