Desert Southwest coverage

From the Salton Sea and lower Colorado River east across Phoenix and Tucson to western New Mexico, this sheet spans the heart of the desert Southwest. It covers broad Sonoran Desert basins, isolated mountain ranges and the rising country towards central Arizona’s Mogollon Rim. The southern edge crosses the international border into northern Mexico, while the western margin includes part of inland Southern California.

Connections to adjoining sheets

Routes continuing west move onto the Los Angeles sheet, with Las Vegas adjoining to the north-west. Albuquerque provides the direct continuation east; Denver meets the north-eastern edge and El Paso the south-eastern edge. Those joins are particularly relevant for longer crossings between Southern California, Arizona and New Mexico, where a route can readily extend beyond one sheet.

Terminal-area coverage

An FAA Terminal Area Chart also covers part of this region. It provides a larger-scale view centred on the Phoenix terminal area, while the sectional retains the broader regional context needed for flights across southern and central Arizona.

Common questions

What area does the Phoenix Sectional Chart cover?

It spans 31.2°N to 36.0°N and 117.1°W to 108.7°W. Airports on the sheet fall within Arizona, California, New Mexico and Nevada. The full list of public-use airports within its coverage is on this page.

Should I download the GeoTIFF or the PDF?

Take the GeoTIFF if you are loading the chart into moving-map software or a flight planner — it is georeferenced, so the software can place it correctly on a map, and it ships with a world file and FGDC metadata at 300 dpi (95.8 MB). Take the PDF to print it or read it on a second screen (193.8 MB); it is the same chart without georeferencing.

Is this the current Phoenix chart?

This is the FAA edition effective 9 July 2026, which is superseded on 3 September 2026. Visual charts are reissued every 56 days and we publish each new edition on the day it takes effect. It is for flight simulation and reference only — not for real-world navigation.

Which charts adjoin the Phoenix sheet?

Los Angeles to the west, Albuquerque to the east, Las Vegas to the north-west, Denver to the north-east and El Paso to the south-east. Each is linked from this page, so a route running off one edge can be continued on the next sheet.

Is the Phoenix Sectional Chart free to download?

Yes, with no account required. FAA charts are United States Government works and are not subject to copyright protection in the US under 17 U.S.C. § 105. Guest downloads are speed-capped, so a sheet this size takes a while; PRO members download at full line speed and can take the whole family as one archive.
