Instrument coverage

McChord Field’s seven approaches serve two of its four runway ends. The mix of ILS, localiser and RNAV (GPS) procedures provides several instrument options on the covered ends, while the remaining ends have no published approach. One ILS carries CAT II/III minima, adding a lower-category capability not shared by the other procedures.

Runways and surrounding coverage

The 10,108 ft runway is more than three times the length of the 3,000 ft strip, so they offer distinctly different scope for aircraft with greater runway-length requirements. Among nearby fields, Seattle-Tacoma International has a much broader chart set; Gray AAF and Tacoma Narrows have the closest totals but remain considerably thinner, while Pierce County/Thun Field and Auburn Municipal have fewer still. The Seattle Sectional adds wider VFR context around Tacoma and these neighbouring airports.
