This freeware package, designed by Paul Craig, addresses the dreaded fuzzy textures on the default Cessna 208B Grand Caravan featured in Microsoft Flight Simulator X. It replaces the existing main texture files to provide sharper visuals without compromising performance. This lightweight modification focuses on resolving blur issues that can occasionally appear on this turboprop, a single-engine aircraft widely used for commuter flights, cargo transport, and short takeoff/landing operations.
Visual Refinement and Texture Enhancement
The Caravan, manufactured by Textron Aviation, is well-known for its sturdy build and adaptability in a range of real-world aviation roles. In some simulator setups, however, the default 208B may exhibit softened textures that reduce immersion. Paul Craig’s fix enhances clarity on the fuselage and wings, enabling virtual pilots to appreciate rivets and surface contours more clearly. This update modifies only the necessary texture items, ensuring minimal impact on loading times. The Caravan’s unique design, featuring a robust airframe, benefits greatly from this improved rendering.

Step-by-Step Upgrade Procedure
- Back Up Original Textures: Before committing any changes, create a backup of your existing Cessna 208B texture folders. Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\C208B, then store copies of the default files in a safe location.
- Extract Archive Contents: Unzip the downloaded fix into a separate temporary directory. You will find folders named “Texture 1,” “Texture 2,” and “Texture 3.”
- Transfer Files: Open each texture folder in turn. For “Texture 1,” move the included C208_T.dds file into your corresponding Texture.1 directory. Approve any file overwrite dialog.
- Repeat for Texture Variants: Perform the same file replacement steps in “Texture 2” and “Texture 3,” ensuring all relevant texture directories receive the updated file.
These small adjustments will deliver enhanced clarity during various lighting conditions in your flight simulator. The Caravan’s detailed fuselage lines, wing surface details, and branding elements should now appear crisp. If you operate multiple liveries, you can replicate these steps for each applicable folder.
