Orlando International Airport

Orlando International Airport (KMCO) gets a sharper, more realistic ramp and terminal setup with updated gate assignments, airline parking codes, and heavy-jet compatible stands that better match real-world traffic flow at Florida’s busiest hubs. Designed for Microsoft Flight Simulator X, the revised AFCAD improves ground operations and reduces parking conflicts.

Enhance your simulation of Orlando International Airport (KMCO) in Florida with this freeware scenery created by Dusty Bizub. This updated package refines gate assignments and ensures that large commercial jets, commonly known as heavies, can be accommodated properly. It marks the developer’s thirteenth custom airport improvement, designed specifically for Microsoft Flight Simulator X. Pilots who frequent high-traffic airports will appreciate more accurate parking codes, and the overall layout closely mirrors real-world traffic flows at one of Florida’s busiest travel hubs. Furthermore, the author is accepting requests for future scenery projects, providing flexibility for enthusiasts to tailor their sim experiences.

Revised Parking and Gate Configuration

Adjusting gate and ramp positions plays a critical role in preventing congestion on busy ramps, notably when arriving and departing during peak hours. By carefully refining the alignment of each parking space, the scenery helps avert bottlenecks that might otherwise occur if heavies and smaller aircraft share the same spaces. This update brings fidelity to the airport’s terminal complexes, populating them with well-defined parking codes and positions to accurately handle airlines of all sizes.

Key Adjustments for Heavy Aircraft

Because wide-body jets typically require more expansive maneuvering areas, Dusty Bizub has modified the airport’s AFCAD (Airport Facility Data) files to let heavier airliners access proper gates without overlapping other aircraft or terminal structures. This approach ensures that gates intended for large jets align with airline codes and flight schedules, offering more realistic operations for enthusiasts seeking an authentic air transport environment.

Straightforward Add-On Placement

  1. Copy the YPPH file into: C://Microsoft Games/Microsoft Flight Simulator X/Addon Scenery/Scenery.
  2. Launch the simulator to activate these changes, and begin flying from an improved Orlando International Airport.

How to install this mod

FSX / P3D scenery
  1. Extract the downloaded archive

Use 7-Zip (free) or WinRAR to extract the ZIP to a temporary folder. Don't install while still zipped — the simulator can't read inside ZIP files.
  2. Place scenery in Addon Scenery

Create a folder under FSX\Addon Scenery\ containing scenery and texture sub-folders.
  3. Activate in Scenery Library

In FSX, go to Settings → Scenery Library → Add Area. Higher priority means it overrides lower entries for the same location.
  4. Always read the included readme

Every mod ships with a readme.txt or README file. It tells you exactly where files go, what dependencies are needed, and any quirks specific to this add-on.
