Having used flight simulators for quite some time, one of the most important things for me has always been the presentation side of things. If the gig does not feel right, then it’s hard to actually fly an aircraft properly – when you feel like you are playing in a game, you will start to fly like you are in a game. However, I always found that having the right kind of atmosphere – the right look, the right feel – is so important to getting a consistent and enjoyable return from using a flight simulator. This is why, when I first tried this mod, I was so thoroughly impressed.
It gave me everything that I had been looking for; the scenery has always felt a bit generic, a tad bare in my opinion. This mod, though, changes that entirely – it gives the entire scenery of the trees throughout the world a total makeover. No longer do you feel like you are flying over the same acre of land again and again; instead, with the help of TreeX, you get to see just how realistic the trees can look and the rest of the world can come together because of this.
It’s a massive step in the right direction, as far as I am concerned. Whilst it’s a bit of a shame that it takes a fan mod to make something as impressive as this, I’m just happy that it actually exists. Atmosphere is the be all and end all for some people when using a flight simulator and this is no different really; It’s got that charm and style about it, without really taking too much away from anything else. Other texture mods can stick out like a sore thumb and – despite being a lot higher in quality – actually make the simulator look worse. It’s a fairly simple reason why, however; when the rest of the simulator looks so poor in comparison, it just ruins everything else!
Thankfully, this mod does nothing of the sort and instead blends in perfectly with the original textures and scenery that are being used in the simulator to rather devastating effect. It can be an excellent way to help your own education, too, as you’ll start to get used to the world being so unique. It sounds silly but if you’ve spent too long on a simulator then the diversity of the real world can shock you when you fly for the first time in real life!
I was massively impressed by this mod – the difference in quality is actually quite staggering, given that it’s created by fans and not by some professional company. It absolutely blows the original trees away and if you have spent time, like myself, gazing out of the window of your aircraft longingly for higher quality you will find that making this simple and effective change is all that you need to do if you want to have a far more realistic world, representative of reality.
