This repaint set offers a detailed recreation of the Douglas DC-2 once operated by L.A.P.E. (Lineas Aereas Postales Espanoles), identified under the registration EC-BFF and aptly named “Mallorca.” Developed exclusively for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004, it builds upon the base “UIVER” Douglas DC-2 package (payware model not included and must be acquired separately). Original texture components by Gerard Kranenbarg and Jan Visser are brought together here with enhancements by Tim Scharnhop. This variant showcases the classic Aeroflot-inspired motif while maintaining the authenticity of L.A.P.E.’s historic fleet.

Unique Details of L.A.P.E. and the DC-2

The DC-2 served as a groundbreaking twin-engine aircraft in the mid-1930s, bridging the gap between early aviation designs and more advanced commercial transports. L.A.P.E., established in Spain, was renowned for creating efficient airmail routes and passenger services. Aircraft No.25, bearing the registration EC-BFF, joined L.A.P.E. in June 1936. Its nickname, “Mallorca,” referenced a key regional destination within the airline’s network. Through this repaint, enthusiasts can experience the timeless lines and operational heritage of the DC-2 within a vintage Spanish setting, all while leveraging the intricate flight dynamics refined by Tom Falley and the modeling work of Alexander Schreijnders and Jan Visser.

Installation and Configuration Instructions

  1. Decompress the downloaded dc2_lape2.ZIP archive into a temporary directory, ensuring all internal folder structures are preserved.
  2. Locate the newly extracted folder named texture.lape2 and move it into the “Douglas DC2” directory within your “Flight Simulator 9/AIRCRAFT/” folder. If installed under Microsoft Flight Simulator X, place it in the “SimObjects\Airplanes\Douglas DC2” folder.
  3. Open the aircraft.cfg file in a plain-text editor and insert the following entry after the final [fltsim.XX] block. Adjust the XX to the next sequential number in your configuration:
