Flight Simulator X Prepar3D

Experience a carefully planned IFR high-speed, low-level military training flight that carries you across the OB-9 Bayshore region in Michigan and parts of Ontario. This route, compiled by Bill McClellan, was designed for Microsoft Flight Simulator X and traverses a blend of flat landscapes, rolling hills, and extensive over-water legs. It is particularly suited to aircraft like the B-52, F-111, B-1B, B-2, A6, A4, and Vulcan, though any aircraft selection is possible. Karol Chlebowski’s specialized gauges for Terrain Following Radar (TFR) and the Pave Tack system are included to assist with challenging navigation, advanced strike procedures, and reconnaissance functions.

Focus on Variable Landscapes and Water Crossings

The crux of this plan revolves around precise navigation through diverse terrains in Michigan and Ontario. Operators will fly over wide spans of water and gently changing elevations. Pilots seeking low-altitude proficiency will appreciate the complex transitions between inland topography and offshore flight paths. This setup closely replicates military-style profiles and helps users refine their situational awareness.

Key Military Aircraft and Flight Profiles

This route accommodates diverse missions and replicates the operational demands of major bombers and fighter-bomber platforms. Whether simulating a B-1B’s swept-wing maneuverability or performing a nocturnal run in a B-2, users can explore multiple performance envelopes. Each leg of the route provides an opportunity to test low-level flight navigation at varying speeds and altitudes without sacrificing overall route continuity.

Included TFR and Pave Tack Gauges by Karol Chlebowski

The package provides two vital gauges by Karol Chlebowski that can streamline low-level missions:

  • TFR (Terrain Following Radar) – Enhances stable low-altitude operations by maintaining safe clearance over uneven terrain.
  • Pave Tack System – Adds refined targeting and reconnaissance capabilities, incorporating precise bombing modes and route-based weapons delivery protocols.

These tools enrich the overall experience, enabling pilots to train with realism and confidence.

Optional Advanced Mini Panel (v2.1)

To further augment flight-control flexibility, consider integrating the v2.1 mini panel. This enhanced panel builds upon Chlebowski’s gauges and extends functionality for more advanced in-flight adjustments, data monitoring, and complex mission profiles. It supports on-the-fly changes to navigation and weapon release parameters, complementing the OB-9 Bayshore flight plan and making it a robust solution for those dedicated to challenging missions.

  1. Extract the downloaded archive

Use 7-Zip (free) or WinRAR to extract the ZIP to a temporary folder. Don't install while still zipped — the simulator can't read inside ZIP files.
  2. Place mission files

Missions go into FSX\Missions\ as a sub-folder. The folder must contain an XML file describing the mission.
  3. Always read the included readme

Every mod ships with a readme.txt or README file. It tells you exactly where files go, what dependencies are needed, and any quirks specific to this add-on.
