Flight Simulator X Prepar3D

This comprehensive freeware package brings the Swiss International Airlines Airbus A320-214 (registration HB-ILQ, named “Bulach”) directly into Microsoft Flight Simulator X. Originally developed by Project Airbus and repainted by Mohammed Al-Khalifa, this rendition merges realistic modeling with a detailed livery for enthusiasts seeking an authentic short-to-medium-haul operation within their simulation environment. This repaint features 32-bit textures that emphasize Swiss International Airlines’ distinctive, understated design while preserving clarity in close-up views.

Distinctive Livery and Registration

The Swiss International Airlines color scheme presented here captures subtle red accents on a predominantly white fuselage. Each marking, including the carrier’s branding on the tail fin and fuselage, closely follows the real-world aircraft’s layout. Swiss International Airlines, regarded as Switzerland’s flag carrier, often names its narrow-body jets after Swiss towns and cities, which is why this particular airframe bears the name “Bulach.”

Technical Highlights of the Project Airbus A320

The underlying Project Airbus A320 model is especially admired for its high-fidelity animations and XML-based logic. These details have been refined to replicate an authentic Airbus experience including:

  • Dynamic Pressurization Control: The outflow valve responds to on-ground and in-flight conditions by allowing air to escape, thus ensuring realistic cabin pressure changes.
  • Functional Ground Spoilers: These spoilers deploy during landing and spoiler-armed conditions, aligning with real-world spoiler sequencing.
  • Pack Outlet Regulation: Various levels of pack outlet openings provide nuanced temperature management and give a better sense of airline-quality climate control.
  • Idle Reversers Logic: Engine reverse thrust remains partially engaged even after shutdown, simulating the characteristic lag seen in many Airbus designs.
  • Double-Bogey Parallelism: Parallel bogies—needed for certain airline configurations—are fully modeled, showcasing accurate geometry in multi-wheel landing gear setups.
  • Jet Wash Visualization: Exhaust effects become clearly visible only when the engines are operating, adding another layer of immersion.
  • Animated Control Surfaces: Elevators and ailerons naturally droop once mechanical power is off, reflecting a powered-down state.
  • Accessible Doors: Both passenger cabin and cargo doors can be opened individually, enhancing ground operation realism.
  • Special Lighting Effects: Strobes, navigation, beacon lights, and touchdown visuals are all customized to Airbus standards.
  • Shine and Reflectivity: Dynamic shine is implemented, ensuring the airplane’s exterior responds accurately to lighting conditions.
  • Passenger Wing Views: Multiple camera viewpoints offer a glimpse from the cabin out onto the wings, bringing the passenger’s perspective to life.
  • Realistic Gear Extension: Landing gear transitions mimic the exact speed and timing found in the actual Airbus A320.

Noteworthy Airbus A320 Attributes

The real-world Airbus A320 series is well-known for its advanced fly-by-wire system and efficient short-to-medium range capabilities. Swiss International Airlines frequently employs these twin-engine jets on routes spanning varied European destinations. Pilots benefit from intuitive controls, while passengers enjoy reliable travel times. In this simulation, those same qualities are reproduced, ranging from carefully tuned flight dynamics to inertial navigation system readiness.

Package and Installation

This mod is provided as freeware, with the fully integrated Project Airbus base model already bundled. Installation is straightforward—simply ensure the content is placed in the correct aircraft folder within Microsoft Flight Simulator X for immediate deployment. Once installed, you can select the Swiss International livery from your aircraft menu and embark on flights across Europe or any other routes of your choosing.

Overall, the attention to detail in both the external repaint by Mohammed Al-Khalifa and the original Project Airbus framework helps create a credible experience worthy of Swiss International’s operations. Short field performance, advanced cockpit logic, and specialized animations come together to provide a feature-rich simulation of this commercial workhorse.

How to install this mod

FSX / P3D aircraft
  1. Extract the downloaded archive

Use 7-Zip (free) or WinRAR to extract the ZIP to a temporary folder. Don't install while still zipped — the simulator can't read inside ZIP files.
  2. Copy aircraft files into SimObjects

Place the aircraft folder inside FSX\SimObjects\Airplanes\. The folder must contain an aircraft.cfg file. Effects go into FSX\Effects\; gauges go into FSX\Gauges\.
  3. Verify in FSX

Launch FSX, go to Free Flight → Select Aircraft and find your new aircraft under its manufacturer.
  4. Always read the included readme

Every mod ships with a readme.txt or README file. It tells you exactly where files go, what dependencies are needed, and any quirks specific to this add-on.
