Flight Simulator X Prepar3D

This freeware package offers a twin turboprop regional aircraft, featuring two distinct Caribbean liveries (Caribbean Star V2-LFF and LIAT V2-LFV), along with comprehensive panel updates, new flight dynamics, and additional enhancements for Microsoft Flight Simulator X. Created by Premier Aircraft Design’s team (including Barry Blaisdell, Jean-Pierre Brisard, Bob May, Kevin Pardy, and Danny Crance), it is an all-in-one release that provides high-quality textures, improved cockpit instrumentation, and various visual refinements.

Refined Layout and Specialized Enhancements

This special rendition of the DeHavilland DHC8-Q311 offers a 56-seat arrangement optimized for efficient commuter flights. The developers have introduced an upgraded 2D panel, an updated dynamic virtual cockpit, and fully animated elements such as airstair doors and cargo hatches. To ensure seamless transitions, operators will find wing views, transparent propeller animations (especially noticeable when adjusting prop pitch), and aerodynamic highlights like dynamic shine.

Distinctive Caribbean Liveries

  • Caribbean Star V2-LFF: A vibrant paint scheme capturing the spirit of inter-island routes.
  • LIAT V2-LFV: A classic regional airline livery well-known throughout the Caribbean archipelago.

Each exterior design reflects the operational identity of these carriers, adding immersive realism for short-hop trips around the tropical isles.

Complete Integration for FSX

This Dash 8-300 build is designed to work with Acceleration/SP2 installations and is specifically tailored for Microsoft Flight Simulator X. It does not offer backward compatibility for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004. Furthermore, pilots can access new flight management tweaks, plus custom HTML checklists and reference files that streamline flight procedures.

Installation Steps and Folder Structure

All files arrive in a ZIP archive. Decompress the contents directly into your main FSX folder, ensuring the Use Folder Names option is enabled. Follow these general directions:

  1. Locate the ZIP archive and double-click to view its contents.
  2. Select every file (Ctrl + A) before choosing Extract.
  3. Designate the path pointing to your main simulator directory (commonly C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X), or browse to your custom FSX folder.
  4. Finalize the extraction and confirm any overwrite requests.

Finally, consult the Install_Help.jpg found in the package if additional guidance is needed.

Aircraft Handling and Operational Notes

The Panel_Docs directory contains key instructions for piloting, and users can also review the kneeboard’s REF panel during flights. Practical commands include:

  • Shift+E: Opens the passenger door, airstair, and baggage hatch.
  • Ctrl+Enter: Raises the VC seat position for better cockpit visibility.
  • Generators On: Verify this in the overhead panel after an autostart.

Those seeking an immersive environment should try activating door sounds before starting the engines or after shutdown when ambient noise levels are minimal.

Notable Dash 8-300 Specifications

According to published references (including data from Jane’s “All the World’s Aircraft”), the Dash 8-300 has a wingspan of 90 feet and a fuselage length of 85 ft 3 in. It is propelled by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW123B turboprops, each rated at 2,500 shp, driving four-blade Hamilton Standard 14SF-23 propellers. With an empty weight of 25,836 lbs and a maximum takeoff weight of 43,000 lbs, this aircraft can cruise up to 287 knots and stalls at around 72 knots (flaps down). Equipped with an 840 US gallon fuel capacity, it can handle a range of about 954 nautical miles. A service ceiling of 25,000 ft and climb rate around 1,600 fpm provide dependable performance for regional routes.

Usage and Repainting Guidelines

This freeware package is intended for personal flightsim enjoyment. Any modifications to the gauges or panels are not allowed without permission, and these components cannot be integrated into other projects or media. Repainting for private use is allowed. However, if you plan to distribute liveries on any online platform or group, please contact the Premier Aircraft Design team (with a simple screenshot) prior to uploading to ensure compliance. Redistribution on any physical or digital medium also requires written authorization.
