In its press release, Canadian Xpress invited all pilots to join them on January 23rd 2010 where they planned to turn back the hands of time and ‘fly the most dangerous approach that ever existed: The KAI TAK checkered board approach.’
The plan was as follows: depart from Manila in the Philippines, head north to Hong Kong and, weather condition permitting, fly the IGS Rwy 13 checkered board approach in Kai Tak.
Canadian Xpress indicated in the press release that this was an open invitation to all pilots regardless of their flying experience, inviting them to all come and attend the Canadian Xpress sponsored event that was going to be flown on the VATSIM network.
More information about the event, namely charts and optional add-on scenery were to be viewed from the company’s website: http://canadianxpress.ca/Xpress/Default.aspx. This event was a great opportunity for pilots to interact and learn from each other's experience.
According to Canadian Xpress’s website, the company hosts at least one fly-in event every month, and they ensure diversity by offering IFR, VFR, propeller and jet events. Canadian Xpress alternates between North American destinations and abroad each month, and this ensures that there is variety in the fly-in events.
