Why is the Honeycomb Alpha the best yoke for most PC pilots?
The Alpha combines useful control travel and accurate sensing without moving into specialist cockpit-hardware prices.
Its roll range gives finer aileron inputs than a small gamepad stick, while the steel yoke shaft and firm pitch action suit Cessnas, Pipers, Beechcraft and many turboprops. The switch panel covers common battery, alternator, avionics, lighting and ignition functions, although complex add-on aircraft may use custom events that require manual bindings.
The caveats are significant. The original Alpha is a PC yoke, not the Xbox-compatible XPC model, and neither version includes a throttle quadrant or conventional rudder pedals. It is also spring-centred rather than force-feedback hardware, so control pressure does not change dynamically with airspeed, trim or aerodynamic load.
Is the Thrustmaster TCA Yoke Pack Boeing Edition any good?
The Thrustmaster TCA Yoke Pack Boeing Edition is the strongest mainstream choice for pilots who mainly fly Boeing airliners in MSFS 2024.
Its defining feature is the pendular pitch mechanism: the yoke grip follows an arc rather than sliding straight in and out on a shaft. That motion is closer to a floor-mounted Boeing control column and feels particularly appropriate in the 787 and other transport-category aircraft. It can control any aeroplane, but its shape and movement are less convincing for a Cessna or Piper cockpit.
The Yoke Pack includes the matching TCA Quadrant Boeing Edition; the yoke is also sold separately in some markets. The pack is the better comparison with the VelocityOne or Logitech bundle because it supplies both primary controls and power levers. You will still need a rudder solution for coordinated turns, crosswind landings and differential braking.
Its advantages are the Boeing-oriented pitch motion, matching quadrant and PC/Xbox support. Its drawbacks are the substantial desk footprint, airliner-specific ergonomics and lack of force feedback. For mixed GA and airliner flying on PC, we would still choose the Honeycomb Alpha; for a Boeing-focused desk cockpit, we would choose the TCA pack.
Does a flight simulator yoke work on PC, Xbox and PS5?
No single yoke should be assumed to work across PC, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 simply because it has a USB plug.
- PC: The original Honeycomb Alpha, Alpha XPC, TCA Boeing, VelocityOne and Logitech yokes are the mainstream options. Specialist devices are also far easier to configure on Windows, although MSFS 2024 may require manual axis and button assignments.
- Xbox Series X|S: Buy a model explicitly labelled for Xbox. Suitable options include the Honeycomb Alpha XPC, Thrustmaster TCA Yoke Boeing Edition and Turtle Beach VelocityOne Flight. The original Honeycomb Alpha and Logitech G Flight Yoke System are not interchangeable with those Xbox models. - PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro: MSFS 2024 launched on these consoles on 8 December 2025, but that does not make PC or Xbox yokes PlayStation-compatible. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 was never released on PlayStation, so compatibility claims made specifically for that simulator refer to PC or Xbox. On any console, model suffixes matter: an Xbox badge on the Alpha XPC, for example, does not extend to the original Alpha.
Do you need a throttle quadrant and rudder pedals as well?
You need some way to control power and yaw, but those controls do not have to be purchased with the yoke.
The Honeycomb Alpha is a standalone unit. The Logitech G Flight Yoke System and TCA Yoke Pack Boeing Edition include separate quadrants, while the VelocityOne integrates its throttle controls into the same system. An existing joystick, gamepad or keyboard can provide temporary throttle and rudder inputs while you build the rest of the setup.
Most yokes have no twist-rudder axis. Some integrated systems provide fingertip rudder controls, but pedals give better authority during taxiing, coordinated turns and crosswind landings. Check for independent toe-brake axes if you fly aircraft that use differential braking.
Compare the total price of the yoke, throttle, pedals, mounting hardware and any required console hub. A cheaper yoke bundle can cost less overall than a superior standalone yoke once the missing controls are added.
How should you set up and calibrate a yoke in MSFS 2024?
Correct analogue-axis assignments and the removal of duplicate bindings matter more than aggressive sensitivity adjustments.
- Connect and test the hardware. Apply any required firmware update, then confirm that pitch and roll move through their complete ranges in the manufacturer utility or the platform’s input test where one is available.
- Create a dedicated MSFS 2024 profile. Keep working gamepad and joystick profiles intact. Separate GA and Boeing profiles are useful when switches, trim and throttle controls serve different functions.
- Assign analogue axes. Bind roll to
Ailerons Axisand pitch toElevator Axis. Do not substitute aileron-left/right or elevator-up/down button commands, which produce digital rather than proportional control. - Remove duplicate pitch and roll inputs. Search the assignments on every connected gamepad, joystick and yoke. An unnoticed second axis is the most common cause of controls that twitch, fight each other or return towards centre.
- Check axis direction. If the cockpit yoke moves opposite to the hardware, use the reverse-axis setting for that assignment rather than replacing it with button commands.
- Start with a near-linear response. Add only enough dead zone to suppress genuine movement while the yoke is untouched. A large dead zone makes small corrections impossible and creates an abrupt response outside the centre.
- Test trim and switches separately. Latching battery, light and magneto switches often work better with separate on/off bindings than one toggle command. Some add-on aircraft use custom controls and need their own profile.

Why does the aircraft twitch, drift or ignore the yoke?
Duplicate assignments are the first thing to check when an aircraft twitches or appears to fight a yoke in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.
- Controls twitch at rest: Remove duplicate axes, inspect the input indicator for sensor noise and apply a small dead zone only if movement remains.
- A small movement gives full deflection: The yoke has probably been assigned to digital direction commands instead of
Ailerons AxisandElevator Axis. - The aircraft ignores manual input: Check whether the autopilot or a piloting assistance feature is controlling the aeroplane.
- The yoke is not detected: Confirm exact platform compatibility, reconnect it directly or through a powered hub, check required firmware and start the simulator with the device connected.
- Pitch feels heavy or the nose will not stay put: Trim the aeroplane before altering sensitivity. An out-of-trim aircraft is not a calibration fault.
- A panel switch works once or appears reversed: Replace a toggle assignment with distinct on and off commands where the aircraft supports them.
Crosswind, propeller effects, asymmetric thrust and poor trim can all create real drift. If the on-screen input indicator remains steady while the aeroplane moves, investigate the aircraft state and weather before blaming the yoke.
When is a joystick better than a yoke for MSFS?
A joystick is the better primary controller for Airbus aircraft, fighters and most helicopters because it matches their control arrangement and occupies less desk space.
Choose a yoke for Cessnas, Pipers, Beechcraft, many turboprops and Boeing airliners. If you keep both connected, create separate profiles and remove pitch and roll assignments from the inactive controller; otherwise, two centred devices can send conflicting inputs to MSFS 2024.
