Does the yoke work on PC, Xbox and PS5?

Yoke compatibility differs by platform, and a USB connector alone does not mean that a controller will work with every edition of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.

  • PC: The original Honeycomb Alpha, Alpha XPC, Logitech yoke, TCA Boeing and VelocityOne are the main choices. PC also offers the broadest support for specialist and force-feedback hardware.
  • Xbox Series X|S: Buy the explicitly Xbox-compatible version. The original PC-only Alpha is not interchangeable with the Alpha XPC, and connected throttle quadrants may require a particular hub arrangement.
  • PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro: Only buy hardware explicitly confirmed for PlayStation and MSFS 2024. PC and Xbox yokes should not be assumed to work merely because they use USB.

Is the Honeycomb Alpha still best without a throttle?

Yes—the Alpha remains our best standalone yoke, but it is not a complete flight-control set.

You can use the keyboard, a gamepad or existing hardware for throttle inputs while building the rest of the cockpit. If you want one purchase containing both yoke and throttle controls, the VelocityOne is more convenient, while the Logitech package is the simpler lower-cost PC alternative. A yoke does not normally provide a twist-rudder axis. Check whether the chosen unit has rudder paddles; otherwise, plan for pedals or retain another controller for rudder and differential braking.

How should you set up a yoke in MSFS 2024?

A correctly bound analogue axis matters more than an elaborate sensitivity curve.

  1. Connect and calibrate the hardware first. Install any required manufacturer software or firmware, then confirm that Windows or the console detects the full pitch and roll range.
  2. Create a dedicated control profile. Do not overwrite a working joystick or gamepad profile. Separate GA and airliner profiles are useful when their switches and trim controls differ.
  3. Bind the analogue axes. Assign the yoke to Ailerons Axis and Elevator Axis, using the analogue axis commands rather than left, right, up or down button commands.
  4. Remove duplicate assignments. Search every connected device for extra aileron and elevator bindings. A forgotten gamepad stick is a common cause of twitching or controls that snap back towards centre.
  5. Start with a nearly linear response. Add only enough dead zone to stop genuine sensor noise. Excessive dead zone makes the aeroplane unresponsive around neutral and then abrupt as the control finally registers.
  6. Test switches and trim separately. Latching hardware switches usually behave better with explicit on/off commands than with a single toggle command.

Why does the aircraft twitch, drift or ignore the yoke?

Duplicate axis bindings are the first thing to check when an aircraft twitches or fights the yoke in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.

  • Aircraft rolls or pitches by itself: Remove duplicate bindings, then recalibrate and apply a small dead zone only if the input indicator still moves at rest.
  • Axis moves backwards: Enable the reverse-axis option for that assignment rather than swapping to digital commands.
  • Yoke is not detected: Confirm platform compatibility, reconnect it directly rather than through an unpowered USB hub, and check any required firmware or console hub.
  • Pitch feels excessively sensitive: Confirm that Elevator Axis—not elevator up/down buttons—is assigned, then reduce curve sensitivity gradually.
  • Panel switch works once and then appears reversed: Replace a toggle binding with separate on and off commands where the aircraft supports them.

Not every apparent drift is a controller fault. Crosswind, propeller effects, asymmetric thrust and an out-of-trim aircraft can all require continuous control input.

When is a joystick better than a yoke?

A joystick is the better primary controller for Airbus aircraft, fighters and most helicopters because it matches their control layout more closely and uses less desk space.

Choose a yoke if you mainly fly Cessnas, Pipers, Beechcraft, turboprops or Boeing airliners. If you fly both categories, keeping a yoke and joystick connected works well, but use separate control profiles and remove duplicate pitch and roll assignments from the inactive device.
