Crash a company aircraft in MSFS 2024 Career Mode? Learn the mission, reputation, repair and insurance consequences—and how to recover.
If you crash a company-owned aircraft in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 Career Mode, the mission normally fails, your reputation can fall, and the aircraft is left with damage you must repair. Insurance may cover part of the bill, but it does not erase the loss; Career Mode has no pilot permadeath.
What penalties does a company-aircraft crash cause?
A confirmed crash affects the mission result, your reputation, the aircraft's condition and the company's finances.
- Mission failure: The job ends unsuccessfully, so you should not expect the normal mission reward.
- Reputation loss: The failed flight can lower your Career Mode standing and slow progression towards better work.
- Persistent aircraft damage: Damage follows your company aircraft back to its management and maintenance screens. Critical damage may ground it until repairs are completed.
- Repair liability: Your company must pay whatever portion of the eligible repair cost is not covered by insurance.
- No pilot permadeath: Your pilot, certifications, specialisations and company are not normally deleted because of one accident.
The sim can also record costly damage without a spectacular crash screen. A propeller strike, gear-up landing, ground collision or excessive touchdown can damage components even if the aircraft still appears flyable.
Does the same thing happen on an employee mission?
No—the financial consequence depends on who owns the aircraft.
| Mission type | Typical consequence |
|---|---|
| Freelance mission using your company aircraft | Mission and reputation penalties, plus persistent damage and an insurance or repair claim against your business. |
| Employee mission using an employer's aircraft | Mission failure and a possible reputation penalty, but the aircraft is not a company asset you personally have to repair. |
This distinction matters when your company has only one aircraft. Crashing that aeroplane can remove your main source of freelance income until you can afford to return it to service.
Does insurance replace the crashed aircraft?
No. Insurance reduces the eligible repair liability according to the cover active when the accident happened; it does not automatically provide a new aircraft or restore lost mission income and reputation.
Check both the post-mission financial result and the aircraft's maintenance estimate before spending credits. Lower cover can leave a substantial balance for the company, while having no applicable cover can make you responsible for the repair bill. A better policy selected after the accident will not cover damage that has already occurred.
Our guide to aircraft maintenance, insurance and selling decisions explains how to protect the company without consuming all of its operating cash.
Is a badly crashed company aircraft permanently lost?
Not automatically. Career Mode generally represents the accident through damaged components and repair costs rather than instantly deleting the aircraft.
A severe crash can still make an aircraft economically totalled: the repair estimate may exceed your available balance or make replacement the more sensible option. Choose between the available actions using these criteria:
- Repair fully when it is your principal earning aircraft and the work leaves enough cash for fuel, insurance and later maintenance.
- Repair selected components only when the interface permits it and every flight-critical item will be airworthy. Do not defer propulsion, control, structural or landing-gear damage merely to launch another mission.
- Ground the aircraft when repairs would empty the account. Employee missions let you earn without exposing another company-owned aeroplane.
- Sell or replace it only after comparing the displayed repair cost with the sale or replacement figures available in the sim. Do not assume a damaged aircraft can be sold for its pre-accident value.
What should you do after crashing?
Use the recorded aircraft condition and insurance result—not the visual appearance of the wreck—as the basis for recovery.
- Let the result save: Allow the mission-end process to finish. Force-closing the simulator is not a dependable undo and can interrupt Career Mode saving.
- Inspect the aircraft: Review every damaged or worn component, paying particular attention to propulsion, landing gear and flight-control-related items.
- Check insurance: Confirm how much of the eligible damage was covered and how much the company must fund.
- Protect your cash reserve: Repair only when you can also afford the next flight's operating costs. If the aircraft is grounded, use these ways to rebuild Career Mode credits before returning to freelance work.
Can you disable company-aircraft crash consequences?
Not reliably through ordinary Free Flight settings. Career Mode applies its own mission and company rules, so switching off crash damage elsewhere should not be treated as protection for a business aircraft.
Assistance options can make an accident less likely, but they do not guarantee a consequence-free collision. Our explanation of how damage and failure settings work covers the difference between general simulation settings and Career Mode behaviour.
If by “crash” you mean Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 freezes or closes rather than the aircraft hitting something, that is a software problem, not the intended aircraft-damage event. Use the separate Career Mode software-crash fixes instead.
