Usually, no. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 does not automatically make Free Flight liveries available in Career Mode. A custom scheme works only when Career’s aircraft-management interface exposes it for that exact aircraft; otherwise the mode controls the paint scheme. Unsupported PC texture replacements may force one, but Xbox and PlayStation cannot use them.
Where do custom liveries work?
Free Flight and Career Mode handle aircraft differently. Free Flight lets you choose an aircraft, variant and installed livery directly, while Career Mode creates an aircraft for a particular mission or company and controls its configuration.

Why does my livery work in Free Flight but not Career Mode?
A livery appearing in Free Flight proves that its package loads, not that Career Mode can use it. Career must expose the same aircraft and variant through its own aircraft-management interface.
A mistake we see constantly is matching only the aircraft’s general name. Liveries are tied to a particular model and variant, so a paint made for one cockpit, engine or add-on version may not work with another. If it is also missing from Free Flight, check the livery installation, Community folder and aircraft compatibility before investigating Career Mode.
Will a Marketplace livery appear in Career Mode?
Not merely because it came through the Marketplace. The delivery method does not override Career restrictions: the livery still has to match the aircraft and appear as an available choice within Career’s interface.
Do company-owned aircraft allow custom paint schemes?
Owning an aircraft gives you more management control than flying an employee mission, but ownership alone does not guarantee access to downloaded liveries. Use the appearance or livery option shown for that aircraft, if one is provided.
- Employee missions: the mission provider controls the supplied aircraft, so there is no normal custom-livery selection.
- Company-owned aircraft: use only the schemes listed by Career for that aircraft.
- Company colours or branding: these are Career customisation features where offered, not imported full-aircraft texture packages.
If no appearance or livery control is present, there is no hidden Free Flight setting that enables it. Reinstalling a working livery repeatedly will not make Career expose that option.
How can I check whether a Career aircraft supports my livery?
- Test it in Free Flight. Confirm that the custom livery appears on the exact aircraft and variant used by Career.
- Open the owned aircraft’s management page. Look for an appearance, paint or livery control; menu wording can differ between aircraft and simulator updates.
- Check the listed schemes. If the custom livery appears, select it there and start a new flight or mission so the aircraft is spawned again.
- Stop if the option is absent. Career is not exposing a supported livery choice for that aircraft, even though the same package may work perfectly in Free Flight.
Can PC users force a custom Career Mode livery?
On some aircraft, a PC Community package can override or replace the textures used by the base model. This is a global texture replacement rather than a Career livery slot, so it may also affect Free Flight, mission aircraft or other instances of that model.
- An aircraft or simulator update can disable or overwrite the replacement.
- A replacement made for the wrong variant can produce missing, blank or incorrectly mapped textures.
- Package-priority conflicts can make the result change when another add-on is installed.
- Editing official or streamed simulator files directly risks damage that must be repaired by an update or content verification.
We recommend keeping any experiment as a separate Community package rather than altering official files. Xbox Series X|S, PS5 and PS5 Pro users cannot install arbitrary Community-folder texture replacements, so console users are limited to content delivered through the simulator and exposed by Career Mode.
Does creating your own livery make it Career-compatible?
No. Correctly packaging a paint scheme makes it available to the matching aircraft, usually in Free Flight, but it does not change Career Mode’s aircraft or mission permissions.
