Is sightseeing worth it in MSFS 2024 Career Mode?

In short

Is sightseeing worth it in MSFS 2024 Career Mode? Learn when Flightseeing pays, when to buy a company and how to protect your profit.

Yes—Flightseeing is worth doing early in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 Career Mode. Its missions are short, use manageable aircraft and build credits and reputation without complex procedures. Later, cargo, charter and specialist work usually pays better for the time invested, so sightseeing becomes a preference rather than the best income route.

Why is sightseeing useful early in Career Mode?

Sightseeing works well early because it teaches accurate VFR flying, smooth aircraft handling and consistent landings without the workload of more specialised operations. Employee missions also let you practise without risking your own aircraft or paying its repair bills.

  • Short missions: useful when you want steady progress without committing to a long flight.
  • Manageable workload: most of the challenge comes from following the route, circling the attraction correctly and keeping the passengers comfortable.
  • Low ownership risk: employee work pays less, but a poor landing does not create a repair bill for an aircraft you own.
  • Useful practice: the missions expose weak speed control, rushed approaches and rough turns before those mistakes become expensive.

For the wider progression system, our explanation of how licences, specialisations, reputation and companies fit together shows where Flightseeing sits within Career Mode.

Is a Flightseeing company worth buying?

A Flightseeing company is a sensible early business if you can land reliably and still retain enough credits for operating costs and maintenance. It is less sensible if buying the aircraft would leave your balance almost empty.

OptionChoose it whenMain trade-off
Employee Flightseeing missionsYou are learning the routes, building reputation or saving creditsLower rewards, but no aircraft ownership costs
Your own Flightseeing companyYou fly consistently and have a maintenance reserveHigher gross rewards, but damage, insurance, servicing and aircraft transfers reduce the profit

A cheap aircraft can become expensive if its condition produces a large maintenance bill. Do not spend every credit on the purchase itself; keep a reserve for repairs and avoid transferring the aircraft across the map for a mission unless the reward justifies the cost. Our guide to company prerequisites and opening a Flightseeing business covers the progression requirements separately.

Is Flightseeing the fastest way to earn credits?

Flightseeing is rarely the fastest long-term credit earner once stronger cargo, charter or specialist opportunities are available. Judge it by net credits per hour, not the reward displayed before the flight: include taxiing, passenger stages, repositioning, insurance, maintenance and any damage.

Its financial strength is accessibility and relatively short flights. Its weakness is that the income ceiling is lower, while one damaged propeller, hard landing or terrain strike can erase the profit from several successful outings.

How do you get better sightseeing mission scores?

Higher Flightseeing scores come from accurate route-following, smooth passenger handling and a clean arrival rather than flying the circuit as quickly as possible.

  1. Read the mission instructions: identify the attraction, required route and any specified direction of orbit before departure.
  2. Stabilise before reaching the attraction: reduce speed and establish the required altitude before beginning the turn.
  3. Fly smooth circuits: use modest bank angles and small pitch corrections. A mistake we see constantly is treating the scenic orbit like an aerobatic manoeuvre.
  4. Follow each objective fully: remain inside the designated area until the prompt advances. Cutting across the circle or leaving after one partial pass can prevent completion.
  5. Protect the landing: use a stabilised approach and go around if necessary. A rushed final can undo an otherwise excellent mission.

Normal aircraft limitations still matter. Avoid flap or gear overspeeds, runway incursions, missed hold-short instructions and excessive touchdown rates; Career Mode can penalise these even when the sightseeing portion was flown correctly.

Why will a sightseeing objective not complete?

An objective usually fails to advance because the aircraft left the permitted area, crossed the attraction on the wrong side or did not complete enough of the prescribed circuit. Fly another full orbit using the mission instructions and route markers rather than turning directly towards the destination.

If repeated correct circuits still do not register, the mission script may be stuck. Restarting the mission is safer than landing with a required objective incomplete, which can result in a poor score or failed mission.

When should you move on from sightseeing?

Move on when your priority changes from low-risk progression to maximum income, aircraft variety or more demanding procedures.

  • Keep flying it if you enjoy low-level VFR, want short missions or are still improving landings.
  • Use employee missions until your performance is consistent enough to protect an owned aircraft.
  • Switch to cargo, charter or specialist work when their net hourly return clearly exceeds your Flightseeing income.
  • Avoid buying a Flightseeing company solely because it is available; choose it because you actually want to repeat that mission type.

For sightseeing without Career restrictions, Free Flight provides more control over aircraft, route, time and weather, while World Photographer supplies location-based challenges. Our comparison of Career, Free Flight and World Photographer explains those differences, and these scenic routes and suitable aircraft are a better starting point when enjoyment matters more than credits.
